Full StoryDear members of ACS
Could anybody explain - what does it mean "zone 2 - St. Mary" in the description of P. Pungens Saint Mary's Broom in ACS Database:
"Obrizok - Very dwarf, dense cushion, low, mounding, very slow growing blue.
Fincham, Robert L. - A very dwarf, broad, slightly conical plant with good blue color; a beauty for the rock garden. It will be less than 3' wide when it is twenty years old (zone 2 - 'St. Mary')."
According to W. Erhardt "Namensliste der Koniferen/List of Conifer Names", the cultivar P. pungens Saint Mary's Broom was introduced by Coenosium Gardens in 1983.
Let's look into the source: http://www.cnos.biz/Catalog/2008/picea.htm
They sell St. Mary! OK, we may be patient with "St." or "Saint", but what is the official name? The answer from ACS Database - it is "Saint Mary's Broom" (but for USDA zone 2 it is called "St. Mary") !?!
Realy confused. Help, please !!! What did I purchase last year - Saint Mary's Broom of St.Mary? Or - are these different cultivars???
Thanks in advance - Kleckas
