You might mail GW and ask for this - AFAIK, the only way to get the desired email is when you yourself initiate the thread. I don't think you've missed anything in your preferences setup.

Cannot help with the issue here but,,,

You might have a email ignore function on your email provider service that let you block emails. I have that function.

Bikerdoc. Don't be frustrated. GW Admin probably gets hundreds of emails per day, replying takes time.
Why not email again? Hopefully they'll reply, with an explanation whether or not another feature can be added.

Marquest, I believe Bikerdoc would like a feature where, after answering anothers' thread, he'd be notified after leaving a message.
Like Amazon has.

This site's software is really old; I don't remember it ever changing since I first found gardenweb back about '97. Corporate ownership probably doesn't make enough money off the site to bother upgrading the software.

Hopeful, that's exactly right. I am on Orchidboard and they have a system that notifies you when you reply to someone else's post. None of this searching for things in which you are participating.

This site is missing a lot of features that are commonplace nowadays; thread subscriptions, quotations, text formatting, private messaging, signatures, etc, etc. Like hoovb said, it's just old software. I do find it odd that one of the biggest botanical forums on the internet has such outdated software, but it's probably just a matter of cost. I hope they update it too, but I'm not holding my breath.

Sadly, you won't get much satisfaction. I've been here a while, and I don't believe I've seen any changes to the site.

I believe Hoovb is right. Cost. Since Spike left, 'original owner of GW', ads and pop-ups have increased, big time. Although the ads are a pain, the money has to come from somewhere. Rather see ads than have to pay a fee..lol.

I love GW, the people, discussions. I'm happy it exists, even if it doesn't have options other forums do.
But, that's just me.

When a thread is started, the poster can check the box if he/she wants to be informed someone responded, but refrain from checking so emails don't go to Inbox.
I'm glad GW has that option.

Who knows? There may be a time when GW updates.

Hopeful, I am equally thrilled to have this forum available for just the same reasons. And my comments are not meant to be judgmental of this arena. For me, it is nice to know when others are responding to a thread, whether that thread is one I started or one that I have responded to. And when I get tired of reading responses posted by others, I have the option of "opting out". I trust I haven't stepped on any toes, here....

Why would any toes be stepped on? None of us have any sort of vested interest in the forum. It is a very old forum that was sold and the new owners don't really do much in the way of upgrading or maintaining. Some of the cool features you may find on other message boards won't be found here. It is what it is.
