I would also have to agree with Geoff, as I grow many varieties of primula and I find that Barnhaven Primroses is an excellent source. Plant World Seeds of Devon and Chiltern are also very good but I have never purchased primula seeds from either of them. On the other hand, since you are living in the United States your government requires that you obtain a phytosanitary certificate to import seed from outside of the country. The price of the certificate can vary from between $4.00 USD to $ 30.00 USD depending on which country you import from. That being the case, I would suggest that you purchase your seeds from Jelitto. You would not require a phytosanitary certificate to obtain their seed as they have a US office. The quality of their seed is excellent because they market mostly to growers. They also offer in excess of 2,000 varieties, many which are rare and unusual including pre-treated primula seed which will germinate without a cold period. Their brand name for pre-treated seed is 'Gold Nugget'. The only issue with Jelitto is that they have a minimum order of 25 Euros. In my experience, Thompson and Morgan is not the best source for perennial and tropical plant seed although they are fine for annuals and biennials. If you purchased the seeds off the shelf from a retailer, I have the impression that it's not a question of freshness but of storage. As far as seed suppliers who harvest their own seed in the United States, I can think of several but they are specialized in mostly alpines or North American native plants. That being said, these are collectors and not hybridizers like Plant World Seeds of Devon who are in my opinion very unique. Hi Maureen, I purchased seed but haven't yet planted them for growing this spring. It will be my first try with seed. The seed must be tiny as they are pelleted and are packaged in a little vial. I also purchased six large Penta's at the Fall close out nursery sale and repotted them for overwintering in the cool greenhouse. They are still alive and putting out new growth at the base so I think I'll get a good summer's blooms from them. The reason I'm telling you this is because I also pinched off end shoots and rooted them in damp potting mix. I have one cutting that is currently blooming and the other's are green and I presume, rooted. I must have taken the cuttings about first of November. I think, if it were spring, the cuttings would have rooted more quickly. Anyway, if you happen to purchase a plant or two of Penta's, do try to take a few cuttings from them. It's a cheap way to expand the number of plants. I believe they are hardy annuals so you should get blooms this year from plants started from seed. They are wonderful nectar plants for hummingbirds and butterfilies. I have limited sunny garden spots so want to make the best use of nectar producing plants. At the nursery, hummingbirds came right down in front of me to feed from the red pentas. After getting the plants home, the butterflies loved them, too. Good luck and happy gardening. Mary

I purchased a Red Rio Grapefruit last August. I transplanted it as soon as I purchased it but it did nothing. I was kind of surprised it did not grow at all last season. This Spring I transplanted it into an even bigger pot and it took off. I tend to avoid overplanting my Citrus and aim for just right (just big enough to encourage growth). So, I thought maybe the Grapefruit was a bit more greedy for container size than the other Citrus. What size is the container?

Cindy, I wore MB out, she doesnt want anymore tomatoes! Everyday I would have 4 or 5 different types with my notepad ready to see which one she liked best. Well after a while, she finally hd her fill of matos so why bother growing em? It was a difficult task to NOT start seedlings this last winter in time for spring planting, but I did it! All this being said, once someone grows tomatos for a long while, there will be plenty of darn volunteers ready to serve especially if you grew matts! I have a couple i took from the garden and placed em in small pots. They seem to be some sort of cherry I grew last yr. Hope its the small plant variety because I am not interested in staking any more plants. Now you know why I dont bother with em anymore. If someone is determined to grow matos in the heat, the fruit set spray is not sprayed on the flowers, it can be though, if you already have the flowers. It seems to stimulate flower growth, but I could be all wet on this. I sprayed it where flowers may form in the future and Poof! Flowers appeared. When you use the fruit set the fruit doesnt have any or very few seeds. The same spray can also be used on peppers too.
