Good Sunday to you. Here's a quote that I like by a famous person whom you may be able to guess.

The Quote:

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

The Person:

A non-U.S. politician who lived from 1874 to 1965, he won the Nobel prize in Literature in 1953 and led his nation through some very tough times indeed.

He also said Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.

Bobbie were you a night person when you were a child, I was :(. Sent to bed at a normal bedtime and then just lay awake until 2 or 3 in the morning, finally get to sleep only to be woken and told to get the lead out or I'd be late for school. At 77 I do as I please, I go to bed late. If I don't I'm back up at 3 or 4 in the morning wide awake tossing and turning. Then, it's either the computer or an old movie. Mornings are a total loss, I limp around until about 11, joints are starting to move by then, by 2 the muscles aren't like stiff rubber and I start doing what needs to be done. After supper I'm raring to go, this is when I can get a lot done out in the garden, the faster the sun starts to set the more energy I seem to have. DH bought me a light I can take with me if I want to garden in the dark. By midnight I could put away a good meal if I let myself LOL. Having Lupus might have something to do with it, the sun is not my friend. Now that winter is around the corner I'll be looking for some good reading material, I think I have found myself a soulmate :). Annette

Four stars for Annette, Bobbie, and Nancy. Yes, Frank Hayes is the only dead man to win a horse race! Sweet Kiss was never ridden in a race again, perhaps due to the nickname given: Sweet Kiss of Death. Poor thing. Anyway, Hayes was 35 years old and had never ridden a race before ( and obviously never did again-ha). He had a heart attack and died partway through the race, but was still in the saddle when the 20:1 horse crossed the finish. Here is a link that might be useful: Frank Hayes

I am going with reading but think any activity that puts one into another person's life helps to build empathy whether that is volunteering and interacting with others or more indirectly through reading and watching video or listening to information about someone's life. In college I read mostly Russian literature on my own. Don't remember how I got started but found the long complicated novels fascinating. And full of f character growth and description. Probably pure escapism. As a kid I read whatever I could get my hands on. Would go to our small library infrequently and read everything in one section before moving onto the next one. Also read my mom's romance books and true confession magazines as well as my dad's true crime mags. And of course, teen bop fan magazines that my sisters' bought. And...my teen uncle's hundreds of comic books.

Well, four stars for Carolb and three for everyone else. Indeed, gypsy is the nickname for the Rompa. They were given that name because people thought they looked as though they were Egyptian even though they came to Europe from India in the 9th century. Here are the two best options for stars. First one is okay, but the second, well, hope everyone has a good sense of humor and gets the gypsy connection. Have a marvelous week. We got no snow over the weekend or this morning. I was going to say Gandhi, but the quote sounds more like Churchill (though don't recall him winning any prizes).

I agree with Patti, Winston Churchill.

My very favorite WC quote:

Winston Churchill, no doubt about it. One of my favorite quotes from him: "No good deed goes unpunished". Hardly a week comes by that I don't use this quote :-)

I spoke to a young lad (3ish)just the other day who informed me that in his new favourite movie the enemy is beaten with the peaches, his father clued me in that the reference was to W.C.beating them on the beaches, not sure how I feel about that, just a bit of trivia, LOL M

I always liked the story of the lady who scolded Churchill, telling him he was VERY DRUNK.

He said "and YOU madam, are VERY UGLY
. . . and I shall be sober in the morning.

Zowie, wowie, you guys did a great job on this one. ***** Five gold stars for Martha, Patti, Steven, Eduarda, and Edna. Annette - you may deserve stars too, but I couldn't tell if, in your second post, you had just remembered the answer, or if you had looked it up. If the former, well, grab some gold stars ***** for yourself.

Thanks for contributing more Churchill quotes. I didn't know he was the wit who gave us no good deed goes unpunished, one of my favorites also.

TM, I'm afraid no gold stars for me :o(. I was drawing a complete blank. Now if the quote was something like ...we shall fight....we shall never surrender I would have known. Can't win them all. When I was growing up W.C. was the topic of many conversations in our household, that's why I said shame on me. I cannot tell a lie, I did look it up.
