I did not put down my correct birthday when the screen to join wouldn't let me be a member unless it had 'my birthday.' I used the first hit in each menu, ending up with Jan 2. That is not my real birthday. I've read others saying they didn't use their birthday, either. That means that many 'birthdays' may be listed at the first of the year if all of us with fictitious birthdays did not scroll down for a more imaginative date.

I did not mean to imply that Glenda and Annette or anybody else were not celebrating their real birthdays, just myself and some others who stated some years ago that they used another date.

The purpose in most sites that require a birthdate is to assure that the person joining is an adult. What difference could it make to iVillage what the month and day are?

At the doctor's office, they ask our birthdate to make sure we're the patient whose chart they pulled.
Since joining in 2003, I've never had to identify myself to Garden Web by my birthdate.

Jan 1st - too funny. I work as a travel agent, and when I was doing leisure, that was the default date when we didn't know the client's actual BD. That got us through the program - then we could call the company later and add the correct date - otherwise, of course, the policy would not be valid!!
