Cutting citrus bud for T-graft

coolbythecoast

I haven't had much luck at my several attempts to T-bud my citrus.

The problem could be several things, but my question today concerns cutting the T-bud.

My previous buds were rather shallow and when viewed from the cut surface I see white wood surrounded by green bark.

My only successful (I hope) bud looked a little different. There was a little green, sort of transparent wood in the middle of the white wood due to cutting deeper.

I have recently cut a couple more buds this deeply and the buds all exhibited the center green wood look.

Can anyone shed a little more light on how deeply the bud should be cut?

Thanks,

Gary
