Moss on a Wall?

I'm helping my elderly neighbor redo her deep shade garden behind her Brooklyn rowhouse. One of the first questions is what to do with a faded, peeling whitewashed brick wall that's partly covered by 'moss' (actually, it's probably some kind of mold, but the effect is like moss).

It actually doesn't look bad, so I got to thinking: could I encourage moss to grow there? Your website talks about needing acid soil, but moss does grow on stone. What about on brick?

Or -- since we would want to confine the growth onto one limited area, so it doesn't adversely affect the bricks or spread indefinitely -- how about onto something we could hang? I assume it wouldnt grow on chicken wire, wood, etc. But is there some material that would work as a vertical, hang-able substrate?
