I highly recommend the movie Miss Potter. I'm not a RenÃ©e Zellweger fan but she really does a fantastic job portraying Beatrix Potter.

The story is touching. The music is beautiful, especially the song called "When you taught me how to dance". The scenery is breathtaking. The gardens are to die for. And the farms are so charming.

I have seen the trailer on TV, but I think it's still not in movie theaters here. Will have to check. Thank you for the heads-up. I actually like RenÃ©e Zellweger, even though I think her roles as Bridget Jones have somehow stuck to her more than she deserved. I liked her in Cold Mountain, for instance. Where do the movie shootings take place, Cumbria?

Back in Beatrix Potter's day the sleepy quality may have been known. My childen always wondered about some lines in The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies, by Beatrix Potter. And they learned the meaning of "saporific" before they started school :) Some "lettucey" parts: "....It is said that the effect of eating too much lettuce is "soporific."...... ....MR. McGREGOR'S rubbish heap was a mixture. There were jam pots and paper bags, and mountains of chopped grass from the mowing machine (which always tasted oily), and some rotten vegetable marrows and an old boot or two. One day--oh joy!--there were a quantity of overgrown lettuces, which had "shot" into flower. THE Flopsy Bunnies simply stuffed lettuces. By degrees, one after another, they were overcome with slumber, and lay down in the mown grass..." So maybe it would be best not to be "simply stuffed" with overgrown lettuces :)

they are great ideas! so funny/odd!!.....i was going through things to get rid of for a yard sale, and i found 3 beatrix potter pop-up books the kids were never interested in, and 3 beatrix potter coloring books:D i'll try to remember to go back and peek at the colored pictures. i also remember the watering can, my mother had one like it..a huge old thing, that was ancient when i was a little girl, lol.....and the scarecrow who got peter's clothes, but i'm pretty sure there were some clay pots next to a shed, or next to the garden gate. this sounds like a great idea....good luck! kudzu

Rowling brought Albus Dumbledore out of the closet at a question and answer session with fans of the books. A fan asked the question and she decided to answer it. It seems this is how the author imagined that character, but she never spelled it out in the stories. I have read all the books, some more than once, and this never occurred to me. I am listening to Book 7 on audio CD now and notice pointed references to a photo of him in his youth with arm around the shoulder of his best buddy, looking very happy. His brother complains, later in the book, about how when that friendship started Albus turned his back on family responsibilities, focusing only on working with his buddy to transform the wizarding world. Many of us who love the stories think of the characters as real people. In a real society there are differing orientations, so for it to be realistic I guess the Harry Potter stories would include that. The first book starts with Harry's eleventh birthday, a children's story in which including romance of any kind would not be appropriate. By the last book Harry is 18, and by this time there are some crushes and even kissing. Nothing more, which I think is best.

From what I read it was in Cumbria, the Isle of Man. I have to go there, I feel it calling me :-)

What I would give to have a farm just like Hill Top.

What a fascinating woman Beatrix Potter was. She did quite a lot for poor farmers.

What a beautiful song that is. I intended to see the movie but I missed it in my local theather cause I see the DVD went on sale in June.

Anyway, thanks for reminding me about it. I had forgotten that I wanted to see that movie. I always loved Betrix Potter books. Guess I can rent it from the video store now.

Several years ago there was a very nice program on TV (PBS??) about her life, which I enjoyed very much.

This sure sounds like it's right up my flower ally. Thanks for the heads up Edna. I told DH about it and then got a little book from our little little library by Beatrix Potter to show him. Tales of Tom Kitten, copyright 1907. I look forward to seeing this movie.

Peter Rabbit was my favorite story as a kid(not back that far- thanks) I bought the whole collection for my kids. and I currently have a teapot with Peter Rabbit on it in my kitchen :) makes me smile!! I will be sure to see the movie!! I havent seen any trailers here yet. thanks Sue

My cable company, COX, had Miss Potter available on demand so I watched it last night. The acting was superb and the scenery was beautiful.
