My Work Load has Suddenly had an addition

I am now bottle feeding a baby Black Angus calf.

I found it wandering in the field yesterday, bawling for its Mama, trying to nurse other cows and calves. It was obviously hungry. No one claimed it. I fed it and left it overnight. Same thing the next morning. We don't know if someone calved and wouldn't accept it or if she had twins and just took one.

Anyhow..............the result is I brought in down to the barn lot and will now be feeding it twice a day.

Strangely, the same thing happened last year but my milk cow was in milk and she accepted it. She won't calve for a couple of weeks yet. I would think maybe it was the same cow doing this, but last year's was born around Thanksgiving so the cow would have to have rebred on almost the day of calving since they carry a calf 9 months.

Life on the farm is always interesting.
