Sounds like something that should be done, at least of those of us who do collect seeds. Maybe we could keep people close to their own zones. That way we'd be more likely to get our 'gifts' to people before christmas and get seeds that'll work in our zone.

One lil' problem, we could only send annuals or perennials of seeds that'll make it through our currently cold weather zones- seeds that need or can tolerate stratisfying or self sow for the following year. Tropicals wouldn't make it through a sub zero freezing.
If we do this let me know, my name's in, I've got lots of seeds. ;)

Ok, so far I have 14 names of people that want to participate. I guess we need to fix a deadline. I'm think December the 8th for cut off and then I can send everyone their information to mail their package to.

My thought is this. Just to give you some different ideals. If you have any extra stuff you could include some/one of the following. Markers, gloves, signs, labels, a small garden tool, or you can just send seeds, and so forth. The Exchange would be from the heart and what one has to share without going to any expense unless they just wanted to.

No problem Bonnie. The whole point of this is in sharing with one another stuff that others might enjoy. The best part of this is giving from the heart and sharing our abundance with others. I think most of us that garden would rather have a plant, seeds, cuttings, or gardening STUFF instead of another tie, house shoes, cologne, and so forth.

Everyone seems real excited about it. I can't wait to see how much fun we have from this.

Gardeners should be the easiest person in the world to shop for and make happy.

It took me years to teach/train my last husband to buy me real flowers instead of cut flowers. I told him I'd much rather have a couple of real rose bushes for the same price or even cheaper than the dozen he would buy on special occassions. Then I also told him I'd rather have plants to go in the ground outside than to decorate our dinning room table all the time. After about 4 or 5 years of complaining, he finally started buying plants to go in the ground. Then the idiot said "If I'd known that it made you so happy I would have done so along time ago." Go figure. I had been telling him it over and over each time he brought flowers home. He was from the old school and brought flowers every week for our home. LOL I finally convinced him he had spent a small fortune on flowers that didn't last. By buying plants he would have them for years to come and enjoy over and over.

Didn't mean to get on my soap box.....

This exchange thing is going to be so much fun.

I wasn't talking about zone denial -we all have that lol! I meant that if someone is say having below or freezing temps I or even they might not want plant material right now and it might be better to send someone in a colder zone seeds,or other garden things or at the very least I would make sure I packed better or added a heat pack if I knew that I was sending to a cold zone.
Guess I could just look up the address and weather conditions when I/others get them.

Some people do only want plants for their zone/s though, I'm not only talking about brugs because they are fairly easy to overwinter...Some people have zones listed after thier names but are out of date or they live in two places (one winter, one summer).

YEAH!!! What she said!!!LOL... I have ZD as well. I would hate to send anything live that just wouldn't make the trip.. I know I can request that the PO hold all package deliveries so they are in a heated building and not sitting in the snow..and just go pick them up.. which is what I normally do in the dead of winter.. that or the mail lady will give me a call and I will meet her at the mailbox..

Just two days left to join in the fun we're going to have with this Christmas exchange thing.

So many of you have written me and shared ideals of things you could put in the package besides plants, seeds, and cuttings. Just use your imagination and the main thing is to have fun with this.

I am looking forward to this. Sounds like fun. Just to let whoever sends me mine know I do not get mail delivery on weekends unless I am expecting something and go pick it up. I don't want packages left when I might not be there.

Marian when are we going to get the addresses of the person we are sending the package to? It will take me a day or two to get it ready once I know where it's going so I don't think I'll be able to get it out on the 10th. Is that going to be a problem?

Hi all. Yes, I agree with Karyn. It will take some time to get everything ready. I would hope, we could have at least a whole day. As, I want to go shopping for a few things. I know plants are first on the list. But - didn't someone mention - maybe sending plant markers , fertilizer, those little brown seed starting cups, rooting hormones, gloves, pruners, memo pads -for the notes you may want to jot down, perlite , maybe some homemade seed packets, besides just sending plants. I am trying to think ahead, as I always need some of these things myself! So, is anyone as excited as me? tina_2

Ok, I'll get each of you your information as to who you are giving to. Try to keep it a scret until they receive your package. I'll get you the names tonight.

Michelle I got your message and that will be fine. No problems. I'm excited about this too. I just said we should start mailing them by the 10th. Let's just say they need to be in the mail within a week of you getting your information. Then let's start another thread as to who our exchange person was and what we got. I think it will be alot of fun. Please remember however that there could be someone that is participating that does not have alot of money to spend on someone and the whole ideal is giving and sharing from the heart.

I know everyone that is participating will appreciate whatever they get.

You are welcome Tina and everyone else. I am from the old school- tis better to give and bring joy to someone else than to receive. When someone gives from the heart it is always a blessing to both. I also believe in paying forward instead of paying back. (grin)

Everyone knows at this time of year things get very stressful for a great many people who don't have the money to buy even some of the smallest gifts for loved ones. That is another reason I pick out some unsuspecting soul in a store and get in line behind them and then I'll give them some money to go toward paying for what they bought. I don't have alot of money but whatever I share always comes back to me in one form or another. I am so very blessed.

I've got to get these Christmas Cards addressed and in the mail. That's another thing I put off until the last minute. I hope all of you that are in the cold can stay warm. I've noticed there are a great many places without electricity today. Keep Warm and God Bless you and yours,
