What are sweet lemons? I have never heard of them. If the others are "regular lemon shaped and very large and yellow", then they are not Meyers. Meyer lemons themselves are very sweet, as they are believed to be a long ago cross of lemon and tangerines. You can tell they are Meyers because their skin is very soft, and kind of hard to zest, unlike regular store lemons, and they are rounder without such a point. Their skin and flesh are also more golden than yellow. I can't tell you what you've got because I have never had to buy one in the store, as my Grandfather's house in the Coachella Valley desert (aka Citrus Central) has a tree growing creme-de-la-creme Meyers, plus I have one of my own, which aren't quite as good as his, but I'm sure much better than those you get in Canada. They are very easy to care for. I have a Eureka and a Meyer. Meyer's are also very easy to care for, a little more cold tolerant, and VERY prolific. Fruit holds well to a point (and then can be a little off-tasting to some). My Eureka will drop the fruit when it's ripe. My Meyer has a more rounded, lower growth habit, but is about 8 to 10' tall. My Eureka was resurrected from the dead, but they tend to be a bit more upright, and will send up these vigorous, upright water sprouts. They also bear just about all the time, and are also pretty prolific. Meyers don't so much tend to do that. The Meyer lemon is sweeter and about twice as juicy as a Eureka. Eurekas have a more classic lemon taste. I happen to love my Meyer lemons and make the most delicious lemonade from them. Patty S.

Oftentimes, the damage caused by over watering cannot be 'fixed' by drying the soil out. Planting into a VERY coarse, rapid draining potting mix can go a long ways in preventing problems in the first place, even for those who tend to be chronic over-waterers. LOTS of us are guilty of this at some point, lol! Using a great deal of perlite, bark fines, and/or Turface (for example) insure that you'll have plenty of large pore spaces in your potting mix to promote the essential water drainage and a constant oxygen supply required for healthy root growth within a container. Please know, too, that moisture meters are notoriously inaccurate.

Thanks for the replies folks. The coating is simply water as we had given it its occasional spraying before the picture there is no signs of any pests or anything of that sort. Do trees require more water once they start bearing fruit? Wonder if the old water schedule of roughly 1 soaking per 2 weeks during winter had become too little after blooming and fruiting... Also from your experience how often and much should we fertilize. We currently do a couple of table spoons of nitrate rich fertilizer every 2 months. we have a keffir lime next do it that is doing wonderful with similar treatment. Is the lemon just more fickle and susceptible to temp and water etc? thanks for your thoughts and advice.
