update on my sisters heart

surgery will take place mid July. They will replace her heart valve with a pig valve..or at least at this time, they believe that is what will occur. She is undecided it it will be traditional surgery or a newer robotic surgery that is less invasive...it is her decision to make. She asked me what I would do...how do you answer that question....how do I know what I would do. I told her to trust her instincts and once she makes her decision to trust her gut and not look back. SOme further testing is occuring to be sure pg valve is best at this time.. She has spent the last year, attempting to buy time, and played with medications to buy time, seeing several drs..getting second opinions.... But now, there is no more time. The surgery must go forward... Some old family heart history has become an important factor in this....At 38 years old, my sister will have her heart valve replaced...I never ever would of thought that....thank you for all who offered support last summer when this first came to light...sad night tonight...I know it will all work out and be ok..but it is a good reality check....value what is important..your health and your family...the price of gas, the recession, our gardens, vacation plans, the drought, or heat....they all seem just minor...without health and life..not a one of them mean jack...

Keesha, you and your sister and family are in my prayers.
I too believe that all WILL be well, but I'm sorry that you all have to pass through this scary and difficult time.

Wendy, Thank you so much for your box. I recieved it as I was walking out the door heading for my long drive to DC. I hurried and opened it and wrote a note to Jason with directions for the plants. The plants looked great and I love everything else that you sent :) Wendy sent me 4 plants, one that I know is sedum, and maybe a vine looking plant, and the other two I am not sure of. - pot hanger decorations, I do not know the 'real' name of what they are. But they are really cute and will look good on some of the pots that I painted :) -lighthouse statues -little stand with a flag -scrapbooking paper -butterfly windchime... that was my favorite!! If I forgot anything, please remind me! Again, I was on my way out the door, and I am writing from memory. Thank you so much Wendy, I loved your gifts!

Dear Finnie, I know what your going through. I remember getting the same diagnosis with my dear Cocker, Jippy. But don't you fret! My dear Jip had an enlarged heart (twice the normal size) and lived a very long time, 15 years. Vets always give the worst case scenario. Just love your Henry every moment of the day and spoil him rotten. Hang in there and prove to the Vet love conquers all. I've left my Vet shaking his head many times *lol* The drug they prescribed works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently. Sounds like she has a autoimmune problem. As bad as she is I am surprised they wouldn't consider giving her anti-rejection drugs (Immunosuppressive drugs) like they give people who get donated organs or who have severe autoimmune disease. Sending good thought and prayers her way.

Think positive, everything is going to go smoothly and your sister will have a short recovery time. Times like this bring us up short , makes us truly grateful for those we have close to us in our lives, all the other stuff doesn't matter. I'll be keeping you and your sister in my thoughts.

Oh Keesha, I'll be thinking of your sister, her family, and yours. I hope everything will go well.

My SIL had heart surgery last year, she's only 45. Of course it didn't make her kick the habits which got her into that situation in the first place, but she's alive and active and that's something!
