A peek into the 'Green Room' - as it's EXPLODED!

Things are now out of 'Sphagnum Moss' & into potting soil! Rooting process is done & hopefully everything will grow through the winter!

If something looks familiar to you - it probably is! :) Some things I've captioned - some not. But you get the picture - it's a JUNGLE!! lol!

Somewhere in the mess is the 'Mon Amour de Mareuil' that I think YOU sent me last year! Am I correct?? It's growing well & I think next year it will bllom for me! Yay!

Ok..I could of sworn I answered questions yesterday and posted! Where in teh world is it?lol Jodik, thank you so much for that! My goodness, now I can't remember what I said, but it was good..lol I know that the only success I have evr had with roses was a welcome back from winter with dead branches or once I cut them off, to see the trunks hollow! Is this some kind of borer, or from cold? Will it affect self rooted ones. In the citrus world, own roots do horrible in the soil with nemetodes and teh such, and that is why they use grafted ones. I always thought the same applied to roses? I am just grateful I can have a mentor such as you to finally be successful with mine here at home:-) Jojo...My cat is very well behaved, but what I do when I am not there is another story..lol I know he is not even interested in my plants, that is except if I do not feed him first thing in the a.m Believe me, it is only then that he has a way of letting me know that he shoukld eat before I do. But I must admit, I have to keep all palms and spider plants away from him. I never saw a tea rose before? Just what are they? Do they have that distinct very 'sweet strong' fragrance? That is what I would love to smell. Chris..You are too funny.lol Jodik, beautiful pics by the way! I'll bet you look so forward to the solsticand the return of the sun! I am sure counting the days...:-) Purple, great points made! I am not even sure if anyone sells them here. But all I need is Jodik to hook me up:-) By the way, the plants in my room are starting to flower like crazy! They love the cooler temps, breeze, humidity, and lack of bugs! My sister just dropped off three citrus trees, and two jasmine about 3 feet high because she couldn't care for them. Oh, what to do? Cut them way back, spray, and then store them in that room? Or cut them back, and store them in my cellar close to lights and let them rest? Arg! Mike

Celeste: The property was fields and vineyards when we bought it. Unfortunately the vineyards had to go so all the vines, poles and wire had to come out. 10 acres worth. The house now sits on part of the old vineyard. The soil isn't the greatest so I always have to bring in garden soil to raise the beds up a bit. deangreen: I love this place for its location and open spaces not to mention all the wineries in the area. Ah, thanks for resurrecting this! We are currently waiting on our custom made work table, so there's still some stuff that is very out of order. That explains why I haven't done a final reveal. One nice thing about my Corian is that there is clearly a defect in it. It's a rather large swirly blob of color. I actually think it helps make it look more organic. And again, it gives me peace of mind when my 13 year old daughter is unleashed in the kitchen. I'm so relaxed this time around that I don't even stress about all the water rings and drip marks on my oiled walnut counter. It's a beautiful thing! It's been very first world problems waiting on my work table. But, it could arrive in June or July. Guess which one I am keeping my fingers crossed for? It's an oiled wood worktop and the base is painted Benjamin Moore's Velvet Cloak. The wall behind my Swedish shelves is also painted in the velvet cloak. I painted an accent wall in my foyer and with the SW Creamy walls, they really add a punch to the space(s). I'm really so pleased with how the first floor renovation turned out!

Yes - on the GH! lol! And 'yes' - that's your passie! She's in a couple of the pics. I actually think she has little buds starting! Hope so!! It's doing very well & it will have a great spot in the yard next year! :))

great looking Green Room, I can actually say now I am the proud owner of a GH, posted my payment this morning which is a Christmas present from my DH. after him seeing that people would pay $30.00 for a 2ft brug. he finally gave in to me wanting a GH. I will only use it feb.-april
then again from sep-dec. so I won't have high heating bills
you with your talent really need a GH

Wow...wow...WOW, you do have a jungle over there. Everything looks like it is really taking off well. Also, with all those seedlings, you HAVE to have a keeper. :)

Mike, your results are a definite testament on your method of rooting with sphagnum moss! Wow, what a site all those rooted and leafing out cuttings! Great to see you back, and also happy you have your plants to make you happy. The cuttings I got from you are rooted, and planted in soil, but they don't look like yours!

The reason why I have not posted yet is, I had fainted seeing all that and just recovered from it.

MIKE ha ha ha have you thought about them in their GROWN out stage? You are just a brug master!

Mike, You not only have a green thumb, you have green fingers and toes as well! You set a high standard and I will try to meet it! Everything looks very healthy and happy! Are your lights regular fluorescents or do you use special grow light bulbs? Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge and know how with us!

Brandy - Not sure 'how' the room will look in February! lol! It looks ok for now! Keeping my fingers crossed for things to 'make it' until April! I'm glad your cuttings are doing well. I hope they ALL make it & bloom like crazy for you next Spring!

Kristy - Yes - on the 'Rattail Cactus!' Got six cuttings from a forum member (the other forum) last fall for postage. They all made it! She's growing like a trooper! lol!

Bonnie - Hoping they STAY 'neat & healthy!' :) It's a long way to April!

Karen - I have a few duplicates of some - mostly the doubles. Hoping they all make it & I can pass them on to some of you guys & gals in the Spring!

Shawn - The German brugs are still in quarantine. They have the entire front double windows in the living room! ALOT of sun! lol! I guess I'll have to get a few pics! :)

TJ - I'm hoping there's one that I may get to register in the future! I have something in mind for a name already! I have one (Theresa's nephew - slight joke there!) that I've babied & pampered since last fall. It's a 'Double Peach x Herrenhauser Garten' and I'm hoping he'll be the one! He should bloom in 2009 - so we'll see! :) But if not - there are about 15 others that may fit the bill! :)

Eloise - I love the 'Sphagnum Moss' method! It seems to work well! The cuttings looked bad (drooping) right after transplanting them into the potting mixture - but after a few days they perked up! They seem to be doing well - now! lol! Your cuttings will take off - give them time & a little extra love! :))

Lucy - Yes! I've thought about them in their full-grown stage! lol! It's going to be a sight with me trying to find just the right spot for them in the yard next year! lol! Of course - I'll have to ship a few to some of you guys & gals in the Spring! :) I can't plant them all!

Joyce - Green fingers & toes?? lol! Too funny! I checked - not! But I do try hard to keep them green & alive!! :) The lights are the regular 4' shop lights from Home Depot. They ran $8.97. I then bought the plant grow light bulbs separately. I think the bulbs were $12.99 or $14.99 each. Not too expensive - but worth it. And they do the job! That's what counts!

Sandra - How are your cuttings doing?? And the Epi's?? :))

Brenda! Brenda! Brenda! :) - A zillion one gallon pots?? lol! Maybe! And I think I'm losing 'Lucerno!' I know - you're going to kill me!! He looks pretty bad - but I'm still hoping he pulls through. 'Brenda's Beauty' on the other hand - is doing great! Yay!

Dang Mike!No kidding your green room exploded LOL.Boy all your brugs look so happy,question I thought when rooting cuttings you should pinch the leaf growth to encourge root growth?Just wondering as a few of yours have top growth.By the way all the cuttings you sent me are doing good too as I went with water for rotting them, they are all now potted up and I have been pinching them back once every two weeks.Im I doing this right?

I think I will after this post:) My nephew is still hanging around? He better start doing his job, instead of just taking up space! I hope the wait is worth it too! LMOA

It's easier to control pests with the leaves stripped. Especially toward the end of winter. I do a little bit of both.I need to see leaves to make sure they're growing. But, the cuttings will definitely be naked later in the season.

Mike they all look great !! Thanks soo much for sharing the moss growing method...I was able to get ALL but 1 to root, and I am just sooooo excited. Mine are all leafing out, and are happy in the window I have them in...I do move them on cold nights..just so they wont get too cold.

I cant wait to see all of them come spring ! WOW, where will ya put them all....LOL

Rigo - I pinch off the growth when I have a bug infestation. But so far - so good! I may have to pinch later - but we'll see! I like to leave the leaves on new cuttings as long as possible! I'm glad your cuttings are doing good! Yay! :) Lots of pics next year!!

Theresa - And what are a few pics if you can't see your 'nephew' in all his glory?? He's now 28" tall & shares a sunny window with a 'Salmon Perfektion' & two Datura 'Goree Island' plants in my computer room! I have HIGH hopes for him! I wish I had room in the house were I could have put a few brugs. Today I did a strip with all of them. Cause some got frost bitten in the shed. But I did find a seedpod on Daybreak. It is even BIG and hope no frost bite there. Maybe next winter I will have a warmer home for them in the house or at least fixed up the garage better.

Your german brugs took care of my home sickness lol
