Dearest Linda441, My Secret Perfect Santa,

These are perfect gifts you sent me! And fast trouble-shooting to avoid trouble at the canadian border and my cold snowy weather.

You must of been doing your own research on my favorites or your a wise woman! Did you read that I wanted pink brugs? I received 5 seeds x 3 different crosses, all with a double pink - Daydreams! An excellent double pink brug for hybridizing. It has prolific blooms with perfect shapes with nice big dark green leaves. I hope those characteristics gets reborn into at least one of them. AND ...It's crossed with each of the following: Santa Rosa, Cherub and Vixen. All of which I've researched out and they're all beautiful PINK brugs, each with varying exceptional qualities of their own. (grins that are hurting my jaw ..lol) We canadians are a little deprived of a variety of double brugs here...lol. This is such an exciting gift. Did you hybridize these yourself?

Linda441 also sent me seeds of the triple purple datura. Did you read how I have a little collection of daturas? I have 5 differents kinds, but the triple purple I do not have. I especially like the ruffles on the triples. Do you have a picture of this one? Is it the deep dark purple or the plumish purple?

I've also been looking around on eBay, thinking to be able to tell everybody what I'm going to get with my $25 eBay gift certificate that Linda441 sent me! You can't imagine my surpise when I found that folded certificate AFTER I read what all those beautiful seeds are.

Off I went to eBay land... I checked out a few things but I really want Spray N Grow Fertilizer (micronutrients) real badly and like now, lol. Well, the sooner the better. They don't sell it here in Canada but there are eBay sellers that have it! I'll have bigger, greener, stronger, better blooming plants and I can thank you Linda. And you to Marian (lovelyiris), you did a great job organizing it all. Big hugs to both of you.

And I still have money left to put towards something else on eBay. ;) Thank you very much Linda for the wonderful gifts. I'm a happier woman this Christmas Season and going into the New Year!

Oh My, I knew I should have kept Linda for my Secret Santa. LOL If ya'll have been keeping up with everything it appears that everyone is a winner so far with their exchanges.

Sandy, Linda went to alot of trouble getting your stuff to Canada so it would get to you before Christmas. She had to make sure stuff was going to make it through customs and so forth.

Linda, you did a great job and I'm thrilled that you were able to get it to Sandy on time. You really are a remarkable woman. I was at wits end as I didn't know what to do about the stuff going through customs.

We will all be anxious to see photos of your new brugs later on Sandy. You lucky lady you!

Concerning fruit set on Flavor Supreme: we have a big tree (relative to my other fruit trees) that blooms heavily, but have never had a heavy fruit set. I also see very few bees in the tree, even when the nearby apricots have bees. I do see some houseflies and other insects on the blossoms. I put vases of more attractive blossoms (Burgundy, Santa Rosa, etc.) in or behind the tree. Bees seem to be somewhat more interested in the blossoms in the vases when they start to wilt, for some reason. Sometimes they are also attracted to the water/lemon-lime soda in the vases. Flavor Supreme is great when picked at the right time. I seldom thin much, and the fruit are huge due to light fruit set. The fruit loses quality for me when left on the tree too long once it gives to the touch. Sometimes I get some fruit drop, too. Dropped fruit cracks, but it's still so good that I cut out the cracked part and eat the rest. Hand-pollination of apricots is easier than hand-pollination of plums and Pluots.

The gentleman from FPC came early and spent about an hour here assessing the situation. And YEP!! they are definitely the Caribbean Crazies and as he said--a pretty bad infestation! The solution is expensive and they cannot completely eradicate it due the fact there are woods behind me and neighbors as well with them but they can get it under control where there will be minimal ants (that I can live with!) The fact that I sprayed the malathion, Spectracide etc is what drove them into the kitchen. They will treat the yard in about a week (after the spraying I did dissipates) and put baits outside to draw any inside back out. I will have to keep cleaning up the kitchen floors 3-4 times a day to keep the dead ones picked so they are not drawn to them (another wonderful habit they have) and he said I can spray with Lysol inside which contains alcohol which they do not like They will have to come out periodically to spray to keep them under control. Hopefully within another week and a half I can spend more time in the yard without the "crazies" making me crazy. Spent about 4 hrs out there today though and got some storm damage control done, and got some of the things put back out that I had put up. I have a small yard so I can imagine what it would cost for the Jacksonville Zoo that has been infested for 2+ years to treat with that much acreage! Greg says they are drawn to plants, mulch, rocks, landscape timbers, potting soil and fertilizer !!! He was in awe of the yard though and was impressed with what I have done in about 6 mos time. Of course, since he loves plants, he left with about 9 pots of plants! He had one brug that he loved (white) so now he has a pink and a yellow to keep it company along with several crinums, caladiums, cannas, wandering jew, marguerite and blackie sweet potatoe vine and coleus---he was such a happy camper! Welcome! You'll find lots of enablers here to encourage you and to help you believe your new addiction is completely normal. I have a few plumeria and want more, more, more. I've discovered that you can purchase seeds on eBay for a very low price and start your own. You wouldn't want to rely on that because they take 2-3 years to bloom from seed but if you combine the seed habit with a few mature plants it's a pretty affordable way to get lots! And just wait until Lisa starts you on the fruit addiction. You'll fill up those 2 acres fast! Kate

I was getting worried that it had not made it! Whew! The PO is a Pain right now and shipping to Canada can be really bad. I am so glad that you got these in time and that you like them. If you come out with a "killer" double out of those crosses, I will come to Canada for a cutting! Break out a bed for me! haha! Under the blooms! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a blooming GREAT New Year!
