It will probably bloom and die before the 20 years is up unless it has some rare axiallary branching. Agave striata will do that more readily and looks similar but a we bit smaller.

Their are several different A. gemniforas and striatas. Some are dificult to tell apart. Some A gemniflora are darker green and rubbery and some are a lighter green. It is a very nice Agave. Somewhat tender, z9b I think. I killed one outdoors. The striata is hardier. The gemniflora will get sizable for a barbed houseplant.

Mine are like knitting needles with sharpened points.

My thought to be gemniflora , now IDed as Striata is flexible with sharpened points. One can see the penchant to axillary branching at the base of the flower stalks if you look carefully.

And here it is earlier in bloom. This has been IDed by more than one Californian grower as an Agave Gemniflora but now IDed by grower and renowned author Gregg Starr as A. striata. This is a confusing corner of the Agave genus that even have different experts giving conflicting info..

Here is my A. geminiflora, at least that's what I think it is. I just moved it into the greenhouse last night. And below it is an A. striata, which I bought in July and it will stay out for the winter with some rain protection.

I would get rid of the peat. If one does it now, I would wash the peat off the roots and cut off any bent and broken roots. and then let the roots callous over for a couple of days. Do not water it for a several days. It is winter, water sparingly . Use fast draining soil. Some people would say wait till spring. One is taking more of a chance of root rot now.I think the agave will appreciate a bigger pot. Unlike cactus. The roots on agaves will like more space.

As logging more rhan one photo. One needs to have one phots on PHOto service like Photobucket, or Flicker. I use flicker. I click on an individual picture. Then I look for something that says "share" and then "grab HTML/BBC code choosing the HTMP code.. I copy and paste it into my message. I can do this again and again. So look on your photo service for the HTML codewherever it is. That is the key.
