Finally after five years of looking, through every newspaper, having internet for 1 year I finally got me a greenhouse a nice one at a great price, a nice Cristmas from my DH. now to get him to put it together for me.

I will be in seventh heaven.

even though he will be able to find me all the time.

I'm so happy for you Elizabeth. My husband makes me want to choke him. He had a spare cord this whole time and watched me do without the plant forum and mope all that time and finally gave it to me tonight now that its time to go to bed. I will be back with a vengeance, lol. Whoooppeee. Show us pics of your greenhouse please. I have 2 walls up so far on mine and it will look really good if it ever gets finished, lol. Missed you.

1st I wondered where you were & how you were doing with yours,where I live next to a state route, there a lot of potential customer's go right by my house everyday, so I should be ready to sell in volumn, when I have the chance
so now I will be ready, I want my GH up & running by feb, get thr jump on the growing season

Thanks you all! Yep, the $500 is mostly gone. I needed a bigger wood stove for the greenhouse to keep the temps up and I needed some more firewood and some computer work done. I'll tell you something funny about this contest though. I had gotten hacked into, had some trojans put on my desktop from some very mean people and after all that, when they called and told me I won, I thought it was whoever had hacked into my puter making a prank call. I didn't believe it until the mag was sent and I actually saw it in print! LOL Oh, and I got hacked again last night but I learned how to use the tools in Norton. Did you know that the intruder blocker also gives you a log file so that you can report the person that does it? Yep, my hacker was from Reston, VA. And it stated plainly right on there that the computer was stationary (not portable). Told me who's server they went through ect, ect. I think that is cool. So, anywho, I am as happy as a pig in a pile of potato peelings. I will remember that about the seeds. How do you normally write articles? Do you have an idea and find the mag that will publish it or do you find one that is sort of up your alley personality-wise and try to write for their readership? That is where I've always had a problem. When you submit photos, are they digital or do you submit old fashioned paper copies? I am interested in writing an article for Backwoods Home. They ask for photos or transparencies. All I have is this rinky dink digital I bought at Walmart. I would really like to submit something that would be up to par of their regular contributors but I really don't know what expectations they have. Or am I just trying to tell myself I'm not up to par?

So the cat's outta the bag. Here's what happened. I thought, shucks, I can make more of these, and you all were so sweet and enthusiastic... I'll just have one main winner and make 8x10s for everyone else who entered. But the first batch turned out awful. The colors were too vivid. So I had to reprint them using a different program and I've gotta say, it takes quite a while to print these things. Anyway, when I was looking for something else, I ran across another print of the same thing, even bigger than the extra I had. So I made that the grand prize, which Shaun won, and then drew again. Annie (hope I'm not telling tales out of school) won the second prize but since she really liked another print more than that one, I decided to make her the one she wanted. Third place went to Chase, who actually got the original extra print. I've already told her to keep her eyes peeled for it. So everyone got something and I hope you all enjoy your prints. A big shout out to AnnT, who so graciously supplied me with ALL of your addresses. I wouldn't be so presumptuous, but Ann, if you wanted a print of something, I would be more than happy to send you one.

I've seen them in the store, but would never buy one. Two of my neices want one but ran when they saw how expensive they are. I can't wait to get it now. I was going to give it to my son, because I have a T-Fal deep fryer. I thought I won the same one. When I got home and got the email with the letter I had to sign and return, it said which one I got. I googled and almost had to change my pants when I saw how expensive it is. I told my son I would just buy him a nice one instead. LOL

Annie, here you go. I personally never use beefsteak tomatoes like the recipe states. I find the better the tomatoes I use the better the marmalade. My favorite is brandywine. Also I find the result is better (and quicker) if you use high heat and stir constantly. This could also be why my yield is always much higher. -Robin Tomato orange marmalade Active time: 40 min Start to finish: 1 day Makes 3 (1/2-pint) jars. 3 lb ripe beefsteak tomatoes, peeled and chopped, reserving any juices 3 cups sugar 2 juice oranges, quartered, seeded, and sliced crosswise 1/8 inch thick 1 lemon, quartered, seeded, and sliced crosswise 1/8 inch thick 1/8 teaspoon salt Special equipment: 3 (1/2-pint) canning jars (optional) with lids and screw bands; a wide 5- to 6-quart heavy pot (at least 9 1/2 inches in diameter) If desired, sterilize jars, lids, and screw bands. Chill 2 small plates (for testing marmalade). Cook all ingredients, including reserved juices from tomatoes, in pot over moderate heat, stirring frequently, until sugar is dissolved, about 6 minutes. Simmer, stirring frequently as marmalade thickens (to prevent scorching) and adjusting heat as needed, until marmalade tests done, 50 minutes to 1 1/4 hours. Begin testing for doneness after 50 minutes: Drop a spoonful of marmalade on a chilled plate, then tilt; it should remain in a mound and not run (if necessary, remove pot of marmalade from heat while testing). If not processing, cool marmalade, uncovered, then chill in an airtight container (preferably glass). If processing, drain jars upside down on a clean kitchen towel 1 minute, then invert. Ladle marmalade into jars, leaving 1/4 inch of space at top. Run a thin knife between marmalade and jar to eliminate air bubbles. Seal, process, and store filled jars (and boil marmalade in jars 10 minutes). Let marmalade stand in jars at least 1 day for flavors to develop. Cooks' note: Â Marmalade keeps, chilled, 3 weeks.

that is funny, I want to use my GH in feb-april that way
I don't have a big electric bill, then there is oct-december, when I have to bring them back in. there is a woman not to far from me just heats hers with one of those little electric heater all winter long

I use a Mr. Buddy Gas heater with a fan going in mine. So far so good. Coldest night here has been 23.

where would I find one of those heaters, our low temps can dip down, in the teens on our coldest months, thats why
I just want to use it in feb. thur april, hoping it won't be too expensive

Lowes or Tractor supply.(Maybe Walmart.) I boought one and got an extension hose they sell and you can hook it up to a barbaque size gas bottle or a larger one. It has worked great for me. You can probably pick one up between 65 to 85 dollars or Tractor Supply had a even bigger one for $111.00 the other day when I was in there. Ebay has them but this time of year price wise you might as well buy new.I bought mine after season for like 35.00. It was a steal. With the fan going it circulates the warm air and the plants LOVE it.

Congratulations! They are so wonderful to have. I have one that I'm heating through the winter. This is my first year to heat it all winter long. I have 2 electric heaters and have been keeping the temps at 40 degs in the evenings.

I got my first electric bill for Nov. and it was exactly the same as last years bill for Nov. The past years we heated our outdoor pond with a stock tank heater, this year I moved all the fish into my pond in the gh. I'm thinking that dawg gone stock tank heater was pulling the same amount of electricity as my greenhouse is. Needless to say I increased the heat in there now. ha ha ha. I was worried sick about the cost. Not worried anymore our electricity is cheap.

Good luck with yours. I can not wait to see a picture of it. So you plan on growing plants to sell? Fun! I really wanted to grow for the public also when I started planning for my greenhouse. I had never worked retail before and needed to have a second job to pay for my greenhouse supplies. So, I happily got myself a second job at a nursery. Holy (*&*&^&% people are awful. They bring back all kinds of plants, some that I know were never taken out of the pots, probably were not watered etc. Many brought back annual planters mid season complaining that they did not look nice anymore. I saw so many people trying to walk out without paying for plants, breaking off pieces that I'm sure they were going to root. WOW!!! Cured me REAL fast about wanting my own nursery business. ha ha. Now I just share with friends.

Thanks for the congrats. the state route, I live on. I sell brugs form may till sept. there is no one else in the area that have or sell them besides me, I am lucky that way
I just put my sign out hugh plants for sale
this guy drove by 3 times, got all the way home, then he came right back, it dawned on him that hugh plants meant just that not many but hugh, he had no problem paying $30.00 for a three foot tall brug with blooms on it. then
the people that buy from me bring their wife's & other family members back, they love to tour my tiny yard. so far
I haven't had any one bring back plants. I am sorry about your experince with the nursery was a bad one
