Look like aloe to me, if it's aloe, I'll bring it inside in winter.

I also think it's an Aloe. You would be smart to bring it in for the winter, or give it some shelter. Most Aloe don't like the cold. Keep it a dryer and that would help as well. I don't think it is an Madagascar species, but even then, play it safe. Norma

It is an aloe, possibly an adolescent aloe saponaria.

Thank you soooo much for your feedback. I googled aloe saponaria and it is a perfect match to my plant.

Now I just have to figure out how to get it through the winter. I can grow just about anything outside (I just let mother nature do the hard work) but once a put a plant in a pot it is disaster. I don't want to lose this one though.

If you have identified this, now is the time to research its winter needs. Please be informed that cold + wet for an extended period of time will rot an aloe. If your area gets down to 20 degrees and this aloe can onlt handle 30 degrees, be prepared to give it shelter from the cold. If you don't want to lose it, these are issues that must be addressed.

Not being indoor plant person I hope I am doing the right thing.

I purchased some potting soil from Lowes labeled for cacti and succulents. I plan to pot it up this weekend and get it ready to come live in my sunroom for the winter.

The sunroom has very bright but indirect light. It is unheated but never gets below freezing - usually in the 50s or above.

I had planned to initially moisten the soil and then only water once a month.

Does this sound like a workable plan?

I would add to mix in some perlite or pumice to the C+S mix to make it about 50/50.

Cacti soil is made for cacti, no need to add anything to it as its mostly sand anyway. There's so many new types of aloe out there that its hard to keep up with them.
