My Voodoos were very prolific this year. I have several hundred seeds ripe & ready to go. These are Sauromatum venosum. They are really cool pre-hisoric-looking things (kind of like a palm tree with a single stalk) & when they bloom, it smells like something dead (really). The flowers are 3' tall & blotched with green & maroon. They will bloom before the leaf grows. They are pollinated by flies (which cover them) & then the smell is gone in a day or so. I put mine outside at the other end of the yard until they are done stinking & then plant them after frost. The plants will get a bit bigger than a softball but will bloom when much smaller. If you don't want to "enjoy" the perfume, just cut off the flower before it opens. They are hardy here some years but I dig them & store them for the winter. This is my 1st year for seeds, I always just cut them off after they flowered.

My seeds came from my friend's father-in-law who got them from his mother who used to collect & send wildflowers from her home in WV to a plant place (name has been forgotten). They would send her all kinds of things exotic to WV (this was the 1920s-30s) & my Stapelia came from the same place. The family still has Yuccas & a Double Kerria from there but I am the keeper of the Stapelia & Vooddoos.
