Hi everyone! I've been using GardenWeb as a resource for a while--I think I finally signed up a year ago. I haven't had much time in the last few years to do a lot in the garden--traveling etc. This year I'm home and going to make my garden less formal and more cottage! I'm ready to "re-decorate"!!! Hey Gang,
I've been here since 2002 (I think). I haven't been on much this winter. Been super busy. I'll be on more as the season revs up. Looks like we have lots of new gardeners posting. Thats wonderful.

I miss some of the old poster, i.e. Steven, Tracy, Dianna. I check out Cameron's blog all the time. She is one busy gal.

I am a lurker and occasional poster. I've been around for a while, but haven't been on as much recently, either to read or to post, as things have gotten really busy around here lately. I'm looking forward to this Spring/Summer though as I should have a bit more time to spend outside again!

I did miss our Cottage seed swap, and card swaps at Christmas time. I loved those creative cards that everyone used to come up with. We should definitely do that again next year :)

This forum was the best source of information I ever found on the internet. I was lucky to stumble across it and have learned so much from all of you.

Like ThinMan, I am starting to anxiously look forward to early March when I can start some plants under lights.

And Ianna, I am also around Toronto, and the snow/snow piles here are unbelievable. I think they are running out of places to store the snow . . . they drive trucks by to cart it away almost every day now. Like last year, we are getting more snow than we can realistically handle, although it is really healthy for the plants in the Spring once it all starts to melt. Not as happy for the flooded basements, but the gardens love it!

Cziga, Glad to see you here. I'm usually in the Canadian forums. I live in the suburbs outside of Toronto. At least in Toronto, the snow piles are being removed. It's nowhere close to the height of piles in the suburbs. In my area which is Richmond Hill, we are basically left up to our own devices. Huuge icicles on our roofs. At least this week has been warm enough to melt off some of that snow. However next week it will freeze again. What we have to watch out for is the next freeze because this is what's dangerous for our plants. At least the snow insulates but if that disappears, it's a problem.

Long time lurker and learner of this forum. Like Wendy2shoes above, I started winter sowing and I realized that the flowers I love most are of the cottage garden variety. (Maybe it's my love of British fiction and films? Can't help but love all those beautiful vistas and cottages!)

Delphiniums are a personal passion of mine, and I was thrilled how many I winter sowed came up and flowered. I love the pictures and discussions here, so many good ideas and people. It's 50 degrees today in Northeast Wisconsin, which makes it so difficult to wait for spring. The temps will be back to the 20s, teens, and I hope not any lower, this weekend.

That's so funny because I'm also from right around Richmond Hill - such a small world. I know, the icicles are deadly. I almost want to post a photo of the ones hanging off the house right now. Some are quite impressive :) The winter carnival gave the town the excuse to clear away some of the snow piles, which was nice . . . and the warmer weather is helping to do the rest, but I'm not looking forward to the new cold spell next week. With the freeze/thaw cycle, I'm most worried about my roses :(

cziga - please, post the pics of the icicles - many of our southerners have not seen them!!! It would be way cool, and I think they'd enjoy them!!!

I am a regular lurker on this forum and a little more active on the Texas forum. I love seeing all the great garden pics and ideas. I am in the process of making a new bed that will be my cottage bed- day lily, hollyhock, dahlias, delphinium, columbine, spider wort, brugs, four o'clocks are what is planted in it now. I plan to add so shade loving plants near the end as it starts in full sun and progresses to full shade around my deck.

I'm a lurker. I pop in from time to time and skim a few
of the forums that peek my interest. I'm from the New Orleans area and we have a very long growing season here. A lot of plants/flowers are ever green and bloom all year. We had snow this year a real oddity around here. Even with the snow and colder than usual temps I still have plants and flowers that are still going strong and blooming. I loved reading your post and going to some of the blogs with all the beautiful pictures and info. I'm looking forward to getting to know ya'll and learning from everyone. Thanks for inviting us lurkers to check in.

I've been lurking with very minimal posting for about 7 years. We just put a porch on the front of our farmhouse, making it look like it did in a photo from the 1800's. Now I have a blank slate in front of that porch and I'm very excited for spring to get here!

Long time GW'er starting in 2002 with Carolina Gardening and branching out to many forums depending on the season. Fall through the New Year I couldn't get off the Holiday Decorating forum, now it is WinterSowing and I am most active here during the spring/summer months - love all the pictures and 'styles' of cottage gardens. I lurk at many of the GW forums all the time - Trash to Treasures, Garden Junk, Annuals, Perennials - all very friendly people just like this one. Looking forward to seeing many new cottage gardens this spring and summer ......

I didn't really discover how fantastic Cottage Gardens was until somewhat late last season, so I can't wait to share in everyone's experience!

Long-time lurker, occasional poster. I'm mostly over in California Gardening and Daylilies, but spring requires more regular visits here.

I'm in Southern California, dreading the drought (I should have been born in England). Hubby and I tend about 1/3 of an acre with a pond, flowers, potager, and chickens.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your ideas, and for all of the links to your blogs and spectacular garden photos.

OK bekcgarden - I've a some of your posts. Renee - As with you and everyone else - we'd like to see your gardens. We are curious, and nosey as heck. Please share - we're not that judgemental, and we really do enjoy seeing a new garden. Blueberry- we've all been there. I tend not to go to the Gallery, as I never used to have the band-width. Even though I now do, I am just not used to going there.

Don here... a forgetful lurker. I never remember this site till an internet search brings it up. I've posted a handfull of times since 2005 when I moved from my full sun, gravel hill garden on the 49th parallel in SW BC to Venice then back within a couple months to a forest glade moist well drained garden a mile west of my old garden. Everything I knew from 15 yrs full sun, overperfect drainage gardening has been tossed.

I made a 300ft X 20 ft sun garden down my new drive to put in all my sunlovers from the old garden. But having a few acres of forest to play with, including a treed creek ravine has made me decide to toss the 300 ft perennial border this year. Sun gardens are weed magnets and that divide perennials every 3 yrs BS- it's every year making a ten foot high burn pile in a 6 foot deep pit! Shade gardening is sublime heaven! Once cleared, weeding is so minimal and my skin is moist and pale- keeping me young looking as I near the half century mark.

Today was a beautiful warm sunny spring day- Wet Coast March- and the thousands of galanthus and hundreds of Christmas Plum hellebore- starts blooming Xmas time- made me feel so happy that the roaming herd of venison looked pretty instead of edible.

I'm new here. I'm looking forward to suggestions since I have moved to a new house that had absolutely no plants. I think its much harder to work without parameters. I don't need to worry about it yet - 10 below zero this morning and we still have four feet of snow!

Posted a few times last summer here. I'm usually lurking on the Antique Rose Forum. Started with perennials around 12 yrs. ago and most of my garden is still perennials. I've filled all the spaces I wanted with repeat and once blooming old garden roses around 30 now.. The rest are perennials. In what I consider a cottage garden style. All in full blazing Zone 5 sun. Looking forward to another great growing season.

I read on this forum often, and sometimes post. Im mostly on New England Gardening, where we posters have more commonalities. IÂm drooling over those who have stella dÂoros blooming. My beds are under about 2 feet of snow. We just got whacked again last weekend. I thought IÂd add my gardenÂs mission statement (Helen YeostÂs blog came up with this idea)  it just about sums it  and me  up.

Hello..I am a lurker who usually hangs out in the far north forum and I love looking at everyones beautiful gardens.I have been gardening at my home for 24 years. I love to start my own plants from seeds and have a 14' x 24' greenhouse that is heated so I can get a jump start on our very short growing season.My children are grown but now I am reliving my garden through my grandchildren.

I probably am a 'lurker', stopping in, occasionally, because I like and understand the people in this forum and where they are coming from. I hope you all find comfort and peace in your humble pursuit of sanity in this crazy world.

I'm brand new! Thought we wanted a MCM-style garden, but...it just seemed that all the plants I really love (and many of the plants I love and deer hate) are cottage-style. :)

Ok, I admit it. I lurk alot more than I post. However, what I do most of all here is admire and learn.
