I am sorry to hear that, but at least maybe the slow growing at this time of year gives you chance to slow down & get that taken care of, you will be missed, you have a wonderful website. you have put alot of time in it

Karma I am so sorry to hear that you have injured your wrist. I'll be praying that you have a speedy and complete recovery.

I can empathize with you. Several years ago I slipped on a patch of ice and fell, causing a compound dislocation of my right elbow. It stretched the nerves, arteries, ligaments and tendons, plus chipped the bone just a little. My entire arm; from my hand, all the way to my shoulder was nothing but a big bruise. My forearm was swollen so bad that the doctor could not find a pulse in my wrist or forearm. He was afraid that I had or would develop Compartment Syndrome. That is were the swelling is so bad that it puts a lot of pressure on the nerves, tendons and blood vessels. If someone does develop CS they have to do surgery to relieve the pressure of the swelling. This often happens with snake bite victims.

Anyway, I ended up having to have surgery for a pinched unla nerve. That is your "Funny Bone" nerve. With the arteries being stretched too, scar tissue formed and completely blocked my brachial artery (the main artery of the arm), right above the bend of my elbow. The peripheral vascular surgeon wonÂt do surgery unless the lack of blood flow gets so bad that my hand starts to die. This surgery is somewhat risky; if something would happen to go wrong I could possibly lose my hand and the part of my arm below the blockage. And I sure donÂt want that to happen.

So I have to deal with what is called intermittent claudication. Simply put, I experience pain and fatigue in my hand because there is not enough oxygen rich blood reaching my hand when I use it; such as using a hammer, a saw or trying to hold onto something for a long time. So I have an idea of what you are going through, I will surely be praying for you.

And to everyone, especially those of you all that live in the colder areas and are up in age, please take care to not fall. After having to care for my late mother and late step-father, I learned that after falling once, the risk for another fall increases. Also, if an elderly person falls and breaks a hip their long term prognosis is not good. A high percentage of elderly persons that break a hip die within six months to a year.

Karma, I have been meaning to email you about something anyway. So when I do get around to emailing you, if it takes a while for you to respond I understand.

It's gonna be slow going to heal, so be a good girl and don't get too frustrated at being an "invalid" for the time it takes to get all better. I will miss you and your dry humor, and all your great brug advice!!

Sorry to hear about your injury. Owwweee!!! That's more than a boo boo. I broke my wrist a few years back (luckily it was my left) and had 3 pins for awhile, so I know what's ahead for you. It's amazing the simple things you can't do and other simple things are a challenge. Try tying your shoes with one hand...yep, slip ons were my fashion statement for a while.

I hope surgery isn't needed and you heal quickly. Take care and know we will be thinking of you.

Karma, I feel for you.I feel off the bed 2 years agos and broke my wrist,It was a clean break,got on a cast,2 weeks later fell coming in my front door hit the wall with my cast moved the bone out of place. The doctor said he would have to rebreak it and do surgery and pins, I said no you won't.I'll deal with it.It healed just fine. I'm left handed,I broke my right wrist.Just let your family take of you.Take it easy.It will be o.k.

Thanks everyone! I'm right handed & yes that's the one broken, I did this almost two months ago and was put in a brace & did a month of PT. When the hand started to freeze a specialist was called in and Tues an MRI was done.
As David stated with swelling sometimes a broken bone isn't seen on an xray. I've had two months to become left handed and typing one handed is really tiring. Needless to say this, they say maybe a 2-3 months in a cast and they hope this will slow me down. Funny how we humans find ways to get around an injury? I know the next question, did you put up the brug house one handed? Yes! With very little help and the guys here are feeling a little guilty!
David, I thank you for explaining your trip I can related and dearest karyn's emails have really been a great help.
Today's mission is to find a bag so I can shower and a material so I can make a cover for the cast so it will stay clean while outside, I have work to do and my list is long!

Karma, I am so sorry to hear about your hand...and having no help...I deal with that all the time. it IS amazing how we learn to adapt to an injury !
