Oh yes, I remember and you could buy it in kits. I was stunned to see that now you have to buy everything separate and it is much more expensive that way....they call it all sorts of names.

I just did an old dresser base and used water based paint and a dark stain for the antiquing.

I love how your cabinets look. Looks like you are doing a super job on them. I do not envy you the work though.

That's a lovely look! You must post photos when you are finished. Take your time, though. That's the same color that is on my range hood -- used a coffee glaze on it. I didn't do it myself. It was done by the cabinetmaker when we built the house.

That is an online pic., not mine. That is the look I want.
I have 1 small door primed and two coats of paint. And a trial spot of glaze. I don't like the glaze. It is too red for my taste.
Back to the paint store. I may try mixing some burnt umber acrylic artist paint to the glaze to tone the red down.

Oooooo .... I can't wait to see them done. I really really like the color and finish.

I did not think to do a before picture. So here is a before of the base cabinets. They look ok, but I am oh so tired of orange toned oak. The first house we built in 1982 had an oak finish.
This kitchen has a lot of cabinets and the wood tones over whelm the room.

Priming uppers. It looks better already! Why do I keep pans in an upper cabinet? Easier on my back when I don't have to bend down and lift them out of a lower.
See that tall clear bottle with a black lid? ( behind the Cavendar'z) It is pure Mexican vanilla. It is about 3 times the strenght we can buy at the grocery. If the house catches fire, that goes out with the dogs and I!

This pantry is double doored. My nephew will build a strong base and install the dishwaser at counter height, behind the pantry doors. Only the left doors are seen here.

It really is going to look awesome when finished, can't wait to see itafter you've finished waving your magic brush.
We're going to pull up the carpets in the living room and dining room this spring, I'm going with tile for the living room (because of the fireplace airtight and possible sparks) with an area rug. The floors are pine but in bad shape so tile for the living room and I'm thinking of painting the dining room floor with a worn distressed look, It's already half way there LOL, possibly carrying on with the tile and an area rug at a future date. Anyone done a floor like this, is there somewhere I can go to see some different ways of doing this.
Old house with many faults, whatever I do it will be an improvement.

Annette, I did a google images check. I found these pics. of painted floors.

I bet you could figure out how to stain them to look "antique".

I remember someone doing their porch faux brick. Now that would be way too much work for me.

You could even paint your "rug" on the floor..

The cabinet doors look wonderful!! Your kitchen is going to seem so much brighter and will have so much more light. It will be terrific. I like the pulls you chose even better than the one in the first photo. When you have the whitewash type paint on them they are going to be perfect with your cabinets!! Great job!

LOVELY! Where did you get the burnt umber craft glaze. I too want to glaze my cabs but am having a heck of a time finding the glaze. I picked up some glaze and paint in those tiny craft bottles but I can't seem to get the hang of it. What is the brand name and was it called Burnt Umber Glaze or did you get plain glaze and mix it with Brnt Umber acrylic craft paint?

I bought one of "those little craft bottles". Squirt some on a styro plate and mix a little water. You want it on the watery side. I did not use any type of glaze. I brushed it on with a 1" brush. Dabbing it in the corners and seams. I used a damp paper towel to rub it off the cabinet. Don't let it dry very long before you wipe it off. Just play with it until you get the look you want. Be sure to stand across the room each time you finish a door. You want to look at two side by side to be sure one is not darker or lighter than the previous doors.

Once it was dry I lightly sanded the areas/edges that would have gotten wear over the years. Then I put on a "poly" clear coat. Don't panic when you see some of the burnt umber mixing with the clear coat. It doesn't move a lot of it.

I saw posts here re: painting oak cabinets and am thinking about painting/glazing my oak cabinets. I wanted to see some 'after' pictures and came across Plantmaven's posting. Seems like the cabinets turned out beautifully from the feedback but unfortunately, I can't see the video or photos posted. I have since added an over the stove microwave. It was a simple process. He took out a few screws and moved the center cabinet up enough to add the micro to be level with the bottom edge of the side cabinets.
