Those look like fruits, not flower buds. Flower buds are not smooth, they're more oval in shape, look like small artichokes and usually have a red tinge to it. And epiphyllum generally flower in the spring, not this time of year. They need a cold dry dormancy with day lengths x

I would not have known those little pea things were fruit! I always thought something had to flower first to set fruit.
Anyway, it's good to know what this plants flower buds should look like. I'll keep an eye out in the spring for some little artichokes.

If you want to save seeds the fruits take a year to mature.

Yes, flowers do come before fruit, it probably flowered many months ago...I'm guessing you must have bought this plant after it bloomed?

The orchid cactus was sent to me as a few un-rooted cuttings a couple years back. I rooted them in the pot they are in now. Sections might have flowered before they were cut from the mother and sent to me, although, I remember the owner of the mother plant saying she had no idea what color the flowers would be, maybe she just didn't notice, I don't know.
So, I don't have any idea when it flowered last.With that said, maybe next spring I'll finally see some gorgeous flowers!
