Shrub and Bulbs, I would hope people here will read the instructions on anything they buy, I don't recommend anything other than read and follow directions. I use one tbs. of liquid fertilizer per gal of water, I do water first. However others may do differently depending on their soil, and other growing coonditions. This is the reason why writers never give a hint in a book on how to grow there plants. I would suggest for you to join the British Cactus & Succulent Society, there are keen growers in Britin. Get a Book for succulent written by British Authors, and see what they suggest or obtain a copy of a cactus book, depending on your level of experience. Whitestone Gardens will suggest a book for you, that might give you exact measurments and suggestions as to what fertilizer would be needed for your cactus mix. There are people who read this forum all over the world, and use different mixes and grow under different conditions. I personally use three different brands of fertilizers and alternate between the three. Any suggestions is of the readers choice. I only fertillize when my plants are in growth, never when dormant. I don't have time to rant on about this but I whole book is needed for the care of plants, and not in a few short paragraph's which will not do it justice if people don't garden with common sense in the first place. I have been saying this for years, (and I have sent out catalogues to many people on this list,) catalogues will give general rules on how to grow your plants, they do expect you to use common sense however. If a plant is rotting, I guess it it getting to much water, if the leaves are burning, I think this groups knows to take it out of the sun, and if it is stretching give in a little more sun, until you get it right. We have smart people here, experienced people, and those that are just starting and begging for some idea what do to do, none of us has learned all of this yet, it just takes time, and common sense. I read people here giving excellent advise, and some of those just started a few years ago. We will all learn, I'm still learning. About fertilizers, less is always more. Notice I keep saying "broader" and have not been posting that they were smaller. Often blunt-topped and leaning 'Microphyllus' frequently produces a high proportion of nearly parallel sided leaves that line up in row-like fashion, to produce a vaguely hebe-like effect. Whereas plant asked about has none of these narrower leaves in view, let alone a lot of them. And the general habit of the shrub asked about is also much more like that of the kind(s) linked to above.

Next year if I plant more seeds I'll start them outside directly and just see how they do. We had such a very weird Spring this year for our area that I couldn't move anything outside til almost mid June. I did have several false starts, but we were a lot chillier than I can remember for a long time. I'm hoping for a longer growing season next year!

HU-295461941, Watering very lightly with a spray bottle is misting. It's not effectively watering the roots of the established plant, though misting is highly recommended for non-rooted cuttings. Depending on where you are, perlite's the easiest to obtain, though pumice / scoria / granite chips / other media are available. If you're not able to get it immediately, go ahead and take the plant out of its pot and inspect the roots. A few days of drying out won't hurt the plant and will allow the soil to dry out, allowing easier removal from the root ball. No wonder it does so well in southern California gardens - it comes from the winter-rainfall mountains of the southwest RSA. 'The species of this genus are restricted to the Western Cape Province, South Africa, where they occur only in winter rainfall areas. Their habitat is typically rocky areas of sandstone.' And all anyone EVER hears about is O. deltoides. To which I say 'Deltoides, schmeltoides'. I never knew there were so many additional species, though I suspect you'd be hard-pressed to find a collection outside of the RSA that has all of the species; OTOH, I know a few collectors who would go to the ends of the earth, electronically speaking, to get a new or missing-from-their-collection species legally.
