juniper name

For quite some time ive called this a 'serpentine' juniper. I know that cant be right. Pls help out.

Also its been since around 2008 since ive posted a photo and that was on the maples forum. Trying to get it figured out again. Thanks AL {{gwi:637102}}

Looks like a Juniperus horizontalis cultivar, propably 'Jade River'...

can you get a picture in focus???

i cant tell if its on the ground.. on a standard .. or holding itself off the ground on its own ... i am aware of no horizontalis that holds itself off the ground ... on its own, but i cant tell with your pic

whats the big loopy vine to its left ..

reminds me of a weird Juniperus chinensis 'Hollywood' i have ... it does hold itself off the ground ... barely ...

It does have that appearance, more commonly called Hollywood Juniper. Named for "The" Hollywood, CA. Recommended as a windbreak, so wind is no problem. Very drought-tolerant once they have gained some size. Ask to see what watering schedule those are on. Mine takes regular pruning well. Once mature, there will be a litter of tiny needles and berries, but that is no problem out in the open.

therer is a conifer forum.. if you think you might be interested in such ... i have about 10 named varieties.. frankly i can tell them apart ... being a conifer they hold their needles usually 1 to 3 years ... the oldest needles are interior .. and as such.. are shed ... you can run a hand thru there and knock them loose.. but dont let them pile up inside too much over the years .... when they dry out later in summer.. they knock down easily ... the level of shedding is sometimes increased by any stressor.. like transplant.. drought.. extended heat etc ... its all normal ... life is all i the the growth tips.. and yours sure looks happy ... as it is not a recent transplant.. there is nothing that you need to do .. PERIOD ... no fert.. ever.. perhaps a deep soaking if drought rolls thru ... but do not treat it like an annual or perennial ... some selective pruning to keep that walkway clear is all it might ever need ... but that might be years away ... it is not an aggressive grower.. see you in the other forum if you need more info ... ken

i am no expert in propagation ... though i stab wildly at trying .... but white tissue is a negative to a plant.. and in my experience ... sans greenhouses ... tricks of the trade.. and actual knowledge ... its usually a loss ... if half the tissue is white.. where will it get the energy to grow roots??? grafting.. IMHO .... would just cut the odds .. now.. if i had a greenhouse for temp and moisture.. and some bottom heat ... then it might be another story ... AND more than one piece .... odds are.. i could get some to root ... and in about 5 years.. i might have a plant of some size .... ken

Ken, I took 3 photos and could only get one to post. Ill have to work on that. This juniper grows wherever you steer it. The loopy vine is the base of the plant. Right now ive got it propped up to pass over a couple small buns. Its my bridge over river Kwai. {{gwi:637103}}

well then steer it behind the pungens ... or larch.. or whatever that teal thing is ...

did you plant it.. i wonder if it was trained as espelliar up on the porch at one time/??? .. in summer... you could probably start training it back upwards.. so it would cascade down .. i would NOT try it in winter ... less flexible ...

look like you have some of the typical juniper tip blight...

it does NOT look like my hollywood ... see below ..

almost broke my neck on this pic.. lol.. look forward to the other two ...

or you could just chuck it out back.. and get some pancakes .... second pic below ...its obviously trying to tell you it is not properly sited ...

Hi Al, I'm still not sure which Juniper it is...
Can you make a detail pic by cutting off a branch and put it on a white piece of paper as underground?
