Let me know if you have and would want to do a trade. I am mainly seeking large elephant ears, even if you don't have the exact type in the post. I've always grown my small Echinopsis pups in small pots, but I've changed that last fall. The small pots always dried out so fast in the high summer temperatures and extremely dry air around here and I don't have time to water every other day. At the worst they had a high mortality rate and at best they lived, but never grew. Now I've decided to grow them in community pots and so far they have been very happy. The true test will come this summer when I'll be expecting a lot more growth. But you know your environment better than I do so small pots may work for you. Plus I am basically growing plants with the same needs and that makes a difference, too. Anyway--good luck with your babies. I've never had success growing from seed yet, but I keep hoping. :-)

I have lost one seedling this year from Spring Sickness, but it was a tiny fan and not too strong anyway--may have been the one tet seedling I've ever grown. Some seedlings looked terrible last year,but snapped right out of it this Spring. I don't grow daylilies to sell and they are all either old historicals or my own seed grown plants so I never bother to cull, unless a plant gets too invasive somewhere, so I have seen plants that looked sad in their first years blossom out like a teenager when they are ten . One pale pinkish single fan started in 1999 now has over forty fans and I can't count the scapes, it's developed the habit of popping up two scapes from a fan and it's now bright red and been in bloom a week. I'm not at all sure what causes Spring Sickness---were I younger and better organized and not such a procrastinator I would like to try a few trials to see if I could learn something. For the last few years all of the plants that got Spring Sickness have been seedlings newly planted in cultivated soil--my established plants are not disturbed and naturally mulched by falling leaves and dead leaves and I'm wondering if bare disturbed soil splashing on plants doesn't cause some problems or if younger plants are more susceptible ?? Anyway I think some may grow out of it and be healthy adults just like bratty kids! -----------------Weedy

Arctic thats great. Congrats. Your pictures always make me so envious. :P As others have mentioned, seedlings should never be given the same cultivar name as it's parent even if self-pollinated. Officially named plumerias were registered with certain characteristics noted in the registration. While some seedlings may resemble their pod parent's flowers closely they may take on different traits in their gene pool for better or worse (often things that aren't readily apparent such as increased disease resistance, vigor, propensity to bloom, etc.). You can name it whatever you want. But to make it official, register it with the Plumeria Society of America if you find this seedling to be outstanding among others in performance, fragrance, or other characteristics.
