Remove the bottom few leaves of each cutting so that you can insert the stems without having any of the leaves touch the soil...or another plant. I've never waited for a succulent cutting to callus over...so get them into a coarse medium pronto. Water them well initially.

It is Crassula Ovata, as Randy said. Jades will back bud but I don't know if they'll do it on such an unhealthy plant. A lot of what you do depends on the look you are trying to achieve. If you want a more "natural" in-the-wild kind of look, prune each branch back to about the point that two of the branches look to have been cut. You could go as far as an inch or two above the soil and it would live though. If you are wanting more of a one trunk tree look, separate it out, find the larges stem, prune it back to the point that it is not bending anymore and let it go. You could actually do both. Take one of the stems and plant it separately and pot up the rest together. Jades are very forgiving and will survive anything but being too wet! You can prune the roots, but it is not necessary unless you are wanting to put it in a bonsai pot. Get a terracotta pot. IMO they are better than plastic for succulents. Rinse most to all of the old soil off and inspect the roots to make sure they are okay. Prune at this time if you feel it necessary. Pot it up in a very free draining mix (1/2 commercial cactus mix and 1/2 pumice, high fired clay, or unpainted fish tank gravel). I have personally started using coir with my succulents instead of peat based soils because it is not so hydrophobic after it dries completely between waterings. Make sure your pot is not too big. The shorter ones made for azaleas, I think, work best. Wait one week before watering and place in a sunny window.

Moonie, thanks for the input- that's interesting some have seen the roots all around and some are only seeing them on the tip of an angle cut. Maybe we can all try and take notice when repotting in the spring - I'd not previously been paying a lot of attention to it. Kim - a Titanic, NICE! I agree, normally I wouldn't spend that much on a cutting either but some of the varieties are nearly impossible to get except through him, and with the future of 1-stop uncertain (and trees needing to grow back! LOL!) I decided to move on it. Mine is a beefy, grey wood cutting too, very nice feel to it. Del, Dazzler is also a really nice one! If I could afford it there are many more I would like to get! Haha! Yeah, those FB deals do go fast, he must be SO busy right now! Jen, I know, it really was a big rut-roh... but I decided you guys are right, it needs to be potted now. Waiting would probably do me more harm than good and with that great callous I feel it's more protected than what I could do with it. I'm very anxious to try George's callousing method in the spring because mine have been disasters, never good like this one. She's potted up, I gave her a good pep talk, and now she's in my *lucky* rooting spot that brought Gina and Moragne #78 out of their stalling when nothing else did. And you'll be first to know if I'm so lucky as to be overfloweth-with-Goldilocks LOL!!! I couldn't remember if my other cuttings from him were angle cut or not and honestly I never paid attention to the callous as much either but I will certainly look back at my pictures and see if I took any before planting, and I'll look when I re-pot. "I am sure other reader of this thread will appreciate it as well." It's been very educational for me. I'm really glad you're showing the progress of this plant. The trunk is shaping up nicely. I'm learning about this stuff myself. I don't know if you will be able to use grow lights, but I started growing one that I thought had stalled, under a grow light. The new growth (top set of leaves on the right and small ones out of the left) is so compact, I don't know how I'll be able to prune it when the time comes. This has that slingshot look, which will hopefullybe remedied in the future by doing similar to what Al suggested. You may have missed this part of Al's instructions: Don't allow any buds to grow from the pair of leaves left at the top of the stub. This will force back-budding from the lower nodes from which leaves have been shed. If you're lucky, you'll also get a bud to pop at the red arrow. The good thing is you have great trunk growth which is what happens from letting branches grow. I always had that backwards; I put the plants in small containers to keep limit root growth (supposedly), which will only keep the trunk smaller, and pruned too much too soon, like in my photo above, which is actually older than it looks.
