Burnt leaf tips

My spider plants are starting to get burnt tips....does this indicate too much watering, too little, or something else completely? (And yes, I realize this is a non-citrus question, but c'mon guys, you know me. I practically live in this forum!)

Here's some citrus stuff....my containerized Valencia is starting to bloom for the very first time. I'm excited, but I've got to keep the mealies away, something i've had a hard time doing before. Another reason I'm keeping my enthusiasm in check is because even tho my Hamlin exploded in buds a couple months ago, not a single one stayed on the tree. (I blame this on the mealies, too.)

The answers to those questions are yes, yes, and yes! ;-) I'm afraid to say that tip burn on your Chlorophytum can be caused by any one (or more) of several different factors. Only you can decide if you are watering too much or too little, so you'll have to be the judge of that. However, a mucky, slow to drain potting medium can make proper watering difficult, so make sure that whatever you use drains rapidly upon drenching. These plants should never be allowed to dry completely out nor should they remain soggy. A good potting medium helps with that.

These plants can be sensitive to over fertilization (tip burn) and the build up of soluble salts in the soil by not drenching when watering. Excessive fluoride levels in the water can also damage the leaves, especially if an overload of fertilizer is present.

Finally, very arid conditions can contribute to tip burn, but do not try to solve that by occasional misting which does little or nothing to help with that.

Well, when I first joined, I was searching by names of the plants that I had, to see what people said about their care. I wasn’t well versed yet in using GW, and a lot of old posts came up under the search. There were a couple strings I found that were interesting and I wanted to answer....then I realized they were old. Then I wanted to ask.....what happened to your plant? Lol I’m thinking it’s because the date of the post is not as obvious in the beginning as it is later on. It’s on the bottom right. Also, do a search using the word, “Monstera” or anything you want to search on. It’s not easy to find the posts you really want because the results come back in some weird order, not date order. Edit: ok, that’s annoying, the results for Monstera came up how they should by date order, lol. Of course! Try :”Begonia”, or anything other word you want to try.

There are no burnt leaf tips or leaf areas in the photo to indicate over-heating during the past summer. ==>>> i agree it looks fat and happy ... but do note.. OP said they just moved there.. old owner could have slapped it in the day before OP showed up to make the sale ... i was thinking more long term on future observation ... i guess all i was suggesting was that OP doesnt have along history with the garden ... stuff could happen ... and nothing i ever planted.. that close to a wall.. lived carefree without some level of aftercare ... many rhodies get bigger than your house .. and again.. we have no history this is some magic dwarf ... and being planted what looks like a foot from a wall ... is going to be a lifetime pruning challenge ... and the taller it gets.. the further it will lean away from the wall .... if it were me.. i would probably move it .... presuming you have some space to move it to ... ken

Wish I could be of some help. Instead, I am having the same problem with my newly divided Drep. khasianum. It's a fairly large division with about 10 tall canes. I've put it up in a very large container, Gardener's Gold organic potting mix, no extra fertilizer, and it is getting daily watering and misting. It's on the northeast wall of my house which is getting morning sun only. Wondering whether it's just a little stress or whether I might be doing wrong.

A photo would definitely assist. If it is the tips and/or margins of leaves and they are crispy brown. It could be from fertilizer burn. Will not kill the plant, but may need washing through with plain water. If the leaves edges are yellow, could be root issues or too much water retention within the soil. Would need to lift it and check for soggy soil or possibly soil which has broken down and needs replacing. Check your advanced settings within your personal settings for Gardenweb/Houzz. There may be something there that you need to check to do with photo's. Can also be if you are trying to add a photo from you Cell phone. May need to allow? Rick
