Comments (11)I, too have a G. mihanovichii var. friedrichii! I guess they can be hard to distinguish, but I've read that the main difference between the mihanovichii and friedrichii species, is that the former's flower color is yellowish and the other pink. I've also read that the mihanovichii stays very small, and the friedrichii grows to about 4" in diameter. I have a roughly 2" in diameter specimen, and when I first bought it, it had two offsets at the base. I removed those, and this summer another started at the base. I also get a ton of flower buds to remove! I've been doing this since I got the plant, and it didn't seem to grow any quicker, but I now know I had it in insufficient light. It's now maroon and quickly growing!! Indoor light just doesn't cut it. Great seedlings! When mine gets older, l'll have to grow some of its offshoots!...See MoreLittle Blooming Cactus ID Request
Comments (2)Oh, yeah! It DOES look like that. I guess I'm used to seeing those grafted and not "stand alone." I'm guessing this one will be okay without a grafting "partner" because it seems to carry its own pigment? How interesting. Thank you for the ID....See MoreHelp with Night Blooming Cereus
Comments (6)It's been in the ground for 3 years now and has just recently turned very unhappy w/ the dark, cloudy splotches on the leaves. Thank you for your help. This has confirmed that I will dig it up and put in a few different pots to nurse back to health as it is huge. Hopefully she'll survive. This one is the mom to about 10 other very happy potted versions....See Morenorma_2006
