Kaffir Lime
Comments (3)VERY nice! It looks really happy. I'm growing this one too and love it. Happily mine didn't get any damage from the winter, so it's made a ton of new growth this spring/summer. I love using those amazing, fragrant leaves in all sorts of Thai, Vietnamese and other cooking (hence the other common name, the one I use, "Thai lime"). So yummy! Mine makes a couple of those fun, small round wrinkled limes, but not a ton, but like you said, we're growing this one for the leaves!...See Moreworth saving this dying or dead kaffir lime tree?
Comments (10)What Mike suggest is exactly what I would do.lol Of course I have a weak spot when it comes to sparing sick plants of their demise. For some reason, it makes me feel good that I can handle such a feat. It's funny about me, but when I see a plant for sale that looks like h*ll, I tend to grab it and find myself having a good time bringing it back from such an aweful state. call me crazy if you would like. You certainly have to have the patience to accomplish such a feat and the know how. The know how will come from being a part of this forum along with persistence in learning. The patience, well, not everyone is up to that. The fact that you have green cambium tells me there is hope, that is if you are willing to look at such an ugly/ oops, cute tree if so that is what you choose to think of it.:-) Please make sure that mix is coarse enough to allow proper drainage and encourage much new root growth. Provide LOTS of sunlight and NO fertilizer until you see its first sign of growth. Make sure the mix you choose dries out evenly and rapidly. Mike:-)...See MoreKaffir lime....who grows it? Do you like it?
Comments (11)I don't grow it, but we use it for Asian dishes...mostly a Hmong spicy soup called Ka Poon. It is a type of curry with very bold flavors (ginger, lemon grass, red curry, banana blossom, bamboo shoots, chicken, cilantro, onion, coconut milk, chicken). We take a Kaffir branch with leaves, bruise the leaves, then toss the entire thing into the pot. Unbelievably delicious....See MoreGuys, I am going to prune a branch off Kaffir lime...anyone want it?
Comments (21)That's too bad, so the U.S mail delivery system won't send any plants or something else to Finland, did I get it right? The customs in Finland won't stop any cuttings to the border, that's for sure. Plants shipped to commercial use is a whole different story. Nevertheless, it seems to be prohibited which is completely new news to me, so it's best to forget all of this at this point :) I must admit I find it ridiculous, here in a northern country ain't any native plants that would get a disease from citruses etc. It must be something with EU, would not be the first time. Regulations in everything, in some cases plain stupidity! :) Britains exit from EU did not get me by surprise....See Moremrao77
