OT Cherry brandy rudbeckia

Pintree seeds has the seeds cheap. I cant wait to grow these. Just thought I would let you all know. They also have the giant castor seeds cheap too. Happy Saturday everyone. Brenda I have roots! You wonderful sharer. Happy in WI Brr cold outside 11.5 gotta go check on the babies. Barb

I just got my Pinetree catalog- not always the latest and greatest selection but just what I need, and the prices are great!! I am going to be ordering soon!

Brrrrr, thought we were cold at 16*!!! Is the wind blowing? Feels like I'm back in Montana, here in Georgia!

Take cuttings of the stems. Last year I did echinacea this way. Make sure you have a couple of leaves and strip off the rest. Then stick it in a container with good fast draining potting mix. I usually just use plain sand for cuttings cause it seems to work better with less rot. Cover to contain humidity and sit in a shady spot. Took about 6 weeks for the echinacea using no rooting hormone. I figure I will need to use the hormone on the CB Rudbeckia to get enough plants. Or put them in the cloning chamber. Many perennials can be propagated from cuttings just as you would a shrub. Annuals too.

A hybrid has an "x" symbolizing it is a "cross" between two species. The only place I saw the "x" being used is on T&M website. If it is a hybrid, I'm curious which species are the parents of Cherry Brandy? Many seed websites don't specify the species of their seeds, some don't even tell you the botanical name, just the common name. This drives me nuts, because I am a stickler for knowing the species of flowers I grow. I think Cherry Brandy might be a cultivar of Rudbeckia hirta, like 'Indian Summer' and 'Prairie Sun'. But not sure.

It is interesting on the different variations of the flower across the states... The first bloom was like yours Brandy (by the way Hi girlfriend where have you been) It was a brownish color too... As new blooms formed the true color started to emerge... They have the rud listed as a Biannual... I will try some more.. They are medium flowers in height 18 inches... Now to try to find a flower to grow with it so they dont clash...hahahhah

Hi Brenda,

Oh I love that new rudbeckia the other seed sites are asking way toooo much moola for that seed being new and all.

I am going to plant the cuttings tommorow. The cypress gardens has roots too! Smile

One of my other cuttings I noticed I had in water was getting mushy so I just cut off the bottom and will try again. It was a different species. They sure can be picky. LOL Thanks once again. I cannot wait till summer to see them bloom. Barb
