When my mom visits she likes fruit with her breakfast so I plan to give her one at a time as an eating orange when she's here. The last time she visited she finished off the last of the rio reds so the valencies are the only mature sweet citrus i have. This tree produced for the first time last year so i guess it took 2 to 3 years to start producing. I have another one of these i purchased at the same time from the same grower which i planted in a large redwood box. That tree looks healthy but it isn't as big and has not produced any fruit so far. But it is flowering so i am hopeful.

Sounds like a bit of transplant shock, sandiegodude. Keep fertilizing it and watch for a new leaf flush in the next few weeks, when we get our second leaf flush. Protect it from CLM by spraying with Spinosad and Volk Oil (as lont as your temps as below 86 degrees and the flowers are done.) Patty S.

No, it is not the dreaded Citrus Psyllid with HLB because we don't have HLB in California and this is not what HLB looks like. It looks like very old CLM, which is very prevalent in our area. And, over all not enough fertilizer period. Be sure you are not overwatering either, as phytophthora is also very prevalent in our area, and if you overwater, you will cause root root, which will manifest itself as overall chlorosis. Patty S.

@ Dave in NoVA That's a really good guess, for all intent and purpose it is jungle. I just try to not sound too dramatic by calling it that. Specifically, I live on the windward side of Big Island at about 800'. To those knowledgeable, that explains the amount rainfall and temperature range where we live. We're right on the cusp of USDA zones 12a and 12b. Those trees that I've cut down in the background, and other invasive weed trees, can grow as much as 10 to 15'/yr, or more. If I do not go around the orange tree with a brush cutter within a year or less, the weeds will begin to actually overgrow the fruit tree. That is part of the reason I want to extend the lawn area to include the tree. Grass likes to be mowed, weeds do not. From the end of my OP in this thread: [quote] ...
