S.F. bay area Aloe barberae and....

Not supposed to be hardy for our area, this is a plant that started out as an unrooted cutting stuck in the ground around 1999. Now well over 5',it somehow developed a triple trunk. I can tell you the freeze of 2007 really stressed it to the limit. The leaves turned a sickly orange with black spots. To it's credit it held on for dear life though. This plant hates fertilizer-reacts badly to even mild doses, like's summer water. Not nearly the fast grower of your hotter soucal succulent garden -I take enjoyment of at least seeing it in real sunlight, in real earth.

And also the bottom and branches(5) of my ponytail that I posted in bloom a couple of weeks ago. Again, another plant that might be common 350 miles south..try to find one in any front garden in the bay area. One of the few plants I have that has had cars slow down to look at.That's kinda neat, I admit-lol.
