Anyone in FL have a Ujukitsu Sweet Lemon?

I was reading about this fruit, and would like to find a plant. It does not look like any of the nurseries that I know of in FL carries them. If anyone that has one in FL and would be willing to sell a little budwood I would appreciate it. Or if anyone knows of a nursery in FL that has some in stock please let me know. Also, does anyone know a good place in FL to get some good root stock seedlings? Please email me at vandegrift12@gmail.com if you can help.

I saw this on Jene's Tropicals website and it sounds awfully similar to the description of the Ujukitsu Lemon. The picture also looks very much the same. Maybe same fruit by a different name?

Sanbokan Lemon - GRAFTED
Citrus sulcata

Sanbokan or sweet lemon is sometimes called the Sanbokan Grapefruit because of its large sized fruits and leaves. Fruits have a rough outer texture with a deep lemon color. It can be used as a lemon or lime. The taste is that of lemon but sweet instead of sour. Sanbokan grows to 10 - 15 feet within just a few years. Container growing this small tree is excellent on a patio that receives full sun. It can also be planted in the ground, reaching its mature height within 8 years, but will live if treated properly for 25 - 50 years. If grown in containers, it can easily handle a light freeze, with no damage, even when fruits are present. Its native origin is unknown, but Sanbokan is commonly grown as a dooryard and patio fruit tree in southern Japan

Thanks, I actually did buy one of those from Jene's. I think they are basically the same. I have read that the sanbokan's ripen a bit later but taste basically the same. After searching everywhere for a small plant, I ended up driving down to Jene's last week to pick one up because it was to large to ship. It was about a 2 1/2 hr trip. Today I stopped by the local Lowe's to pick up some potting mix and what do I see, about ten perfect sanbokan's. The wife was not too pleased when I bought one from Lowe's as well especially after spending about $50 on gas getting down to Jene's. I just hope these things actually taste good.

merricat, I haven't grown columbines since we moved to our new home. I had many varieties at the old place, but somehow my seeds got lost or misplaced during the move. I planted a couple of foxgloves the first year we moved but they didn't survive, nor did they produce any seeds or seedlings. I'm looking forward to seeing your list.

I had Ujukitsu growing in a large pot. It was pretty good. Mine tasted like lemon aid. I had many plants around my pool and the wife said they had to go. What I could not plant inground, I gave to other family members. I also have a large meyer, a very sweet/tart nagami kumquat, and a Lemon Drop. I picked thru @20 nagami's before I found one that had high sugars to balance the acid. It is very good. Also, the lemon drop is pure lemonaid. I picked thru many of those before I chose the one with the sweetest fruit to balance the acid. I chose to keep the nagami and the lemon drop over the ujukitsu because they were better IMHO. Lemon Drop does not get good reviews here but mine is great......pure lemonaid and the peel is sweet. Can eat whole fruit. They get a little larger than golf balls. If I had the space I would have kept the ujukitsu also, but wife said some had to go. I tend to purchase my trees when they have fruit so I can taste them. It is surprising how the same varieties can taste so different. Also, you may have noticed that I prefer sweet/tart. My wife prefers sweet. Bottom line a good ujukitsu is very unusual and worth being in a collection if you have room and they do great in pots.

FWIW, I have a Daytona & boy! is it ever vigorous - I rarely fertilise or even prune - it's on its own. Sadly tho, possums stripped all the fruit this year before it was even ripe = ( It is a seeded pink variety from a cross w/ muscadines, I believe, so the skins are thicker & puckerish when raw, but flesh is oh-so-sweet when ripe & the skin slips off easily. They don't have that distinctive muscadine flavour either. I use them more for cooking than fresh eating (pies, fruit crisps, etc.) - the skins aren't bitter when cooked. HTH

Lemon Juice in FL Washer?

I use either splash of vinegar or lemon juice in the final rinse.The lemon juice should help brighten up the laundry.Your stale smell could be result of not properly rinsed laundry. Try wash each of your next load twice ,once w/extra detergent,second without.Even add extra rinse to it.Use the hottest setting you can. I only use hot and sanitary and always extra rinse and our laundry smells nice.I had problem in past w/smelly laundry and found out it was my bf laundry.He has dermatitis and uses medicated lotions and it didn't get washed out properly. Hot water and the extra rinse took care of it. I only use Persil now.

How lucky you are. The Lowes & Home Depots in Broward County don't carry anything nearly so unusual. I have to buy everything mail order. Right now I am on the hunt for rangpur lime. Enjoy your lemon trees!

It was the first time I had ever seen one at any Lowe's or HD or really anything besides the common stuff. It looked like they had just got their shipment. Now I just need to find a blood at Lowe's one of these days.
