If it were mine, I would put it in a much smaller pot. Maybe a 2"-4" clay pot. Use a very fast, porous soil. If you look at Josh(greenman's post) just below or above this one, you will see what type of soil he uses. Give lots of sunlight...but if its been in the shade for a while, acclimate it very slowly to full sun. In my opinion that pot you have it in right now is way too big...more chance of the soil staying too wet too long and might result in root rot. Good luck!

Smaller pot, definitely, small clay as recommended above. Use some sort of "cactus soil." (Miracle grow makes puts some up on small bags.) Allow it to get plenty of sun. Keep it outdoors in the sun as much as possible. Let it dry out between waterings (put it where the sprinkler won't reach it for one thing) and don't baby it. It needs tough love. About all that can kill it is too much water and freezing. Essentially treat it like a tender cactus -this winter bring it in and keep it in a sunny window but away from the cold glass. If it gets mealy bugs indoors -(little fuzzy white things) - touch them with a qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Also watch out for squirrels. They've been know to eat them.

Thank you friends! I did some searching around here and learned alot about it. I found (I think it was puglvr1's) soil ingredients and went out for a hunt to try and find that mixture. Every bagged succulent/cacti mix I found had peat moss so I didn't go that rout. My local nursery helped me find most of the ingredients. I purchased a smaller terra-cotta pot. When I took the jade out of it's original pot, the roots where not loose. They where wrapped in a ball of the soil it was in. Very hard to get all the soil off of it. Took the bulk of it out and repotted it with the fir bark, coarse dessert sand, etc...

Avoiding peat-moss and peat-based potting muck is the best thing! Your research and ingredient-hunt really paid off.
Your Jade will be so much healthier and far more vigorous now. It will, no doubt, reward you with a growth spurt, too.

Just a couple quick things:
1. After re-potting, it's best to wait 3-5 days to water the container - this allows any damaged roots to form a callus, which will help prevent root-rot and encourage root-growth.

2. It's also best to give your Jade a bit of protection from the direct sun while it is acclimating to its new pot and re-establishing its roots. Until it's settled, it simply won't be using sunlight or moisture as readily as it had been. As Puglvr wrote, you'll want the Jade in full sun *eventually*....but move it into direct sun gradually, a couple hours a day.

3. Bugs. Plants outdoors enjoy the natural predators (beneficial insects) that take care of pests. The best thing for your Jade will be summering outside. The healthier your Jade is when it goes back inside, the better it will do over winter.

4. Watering. I wait until the Jade's leaves feel soft. Then I water the following morning, allowing the Jade to make use of the moisture over the entire day. If one were to water at night, for instance, the moisture might sit around the roots; at best, doing nothing; at worst, compromising the roots.

During the growing season, one can water a good Gritty mix with near impugnity. Chance of rot is slim.
