I think the weather said that we will have forst for the next few nights at least. I think tomorrow I will get some brugs brought in for good. I was out stripping leaves on some today, getting them readt for a forbid spraying befor I bring them in. I am going to keep playing the drag in drag out game with a few that have buds that I want to see open, the rest are going in the basement, and there are a few that I will keep going over winter, plus all the cuttings I have coming my way and my little seedlings. Sad time of year when there is no gardening to be done :(

OK, Rafed, so what did become of your fat little bushy-tailed tree rat? I couldn't kill something with that cute a face and those bright, black eyes, but that's just me. However, I'm used to people eating wildlife. One day, a neighbor called and told me she was baking a 'possum (or was it a raccoon...) and would I like to try it. I passed on it, but it sure smelled good. (I had to go see it) Another neighbor told me she was baking a bullfrog her husband had gigged. It was stuffed and oven-braised. That must have been a BIG olf frog! I love it here! Gene, I'm like you, a bayou Cajun(not), I think. I go for the flavor with some heat, but I don' like to cauterize my tastebuds, no! :) I say I'm a Cajun(not) like y'all do with the fig trees that aren't. My boss's Cajun Uncle Ossie gave me a test, many years ago, and I passed it, so he said, "You're one of us," and I took that to heart and was so proud I had passed his test. He was the sweetest old fella and I loved it when he would stop by the clinic to visit. We've been here most of our lives now and don't want to leave. Love dem crawfish, yeah! Vivian

Thank you all so much for your advice here. I guess the best thing to do when shopping for a mattress is to try them out for yourself, which is what I did today. I just came home, and I bought a mattress.... maybe I should have done more research, but I wanted to get this done and move on with my life. I didn't buy the first one I saw though, I went to three places. I was the ONLY customer in each of the three stores I went to, so I think the sales people were "hungry". I pocket dialed my a friend 3 times while trying out mattresses, I guess they make a keyboard lock for a reason! First, Mattress Firm. Sales guy was an eager, young, skinny whipper snapper, named Craig. He made me lie down on a diagnostic bed. Then he looked at the print out and would only show me mattresses on the print out (which were the firmest ones in the store, and I stressed I wanted soft, not firm). I really liked the Simmons Beauty Rest with pillow top, AND the Tempurpedic, but I was not about to spend 3000 dollars (or even the sale price of 2600). I also liked the Sterns and Foster, but again, way high end. The second place was one called Mattress One... a nice older guy named Humberto was the salesman there. He spent time showing me a lot of beds and listened. There was one that was called Therapepdic, which was a knock off of Tempurpedic. It was only 499... I liked it for the most part (super soft), but I sank way down into it, and could feel the box springs below. I told him I'd consider it, took his card, and went to Five Guys to have lunch. While inhaling my cheeseburger, I hopped online (on my phone) and did a bit of research on Therapedic. I discovered some bad reviews, they don't keep their shape after a few years! In the next plaza over, there was a Mattress Giant. I walked up to find a big fat guy in a yellow shirt smoking right outside the door... upon seeing that, I almost got back in the car, but instead went inside since I was already there... His name was Sergio, and he really took the time to explain things to me, and after listening, directed me to a brand called King's Down. It's memory foam on the inside (no coils at all), but it looks like a traditional mattress, and doesn't sink down and envelope you like a Tempurpedic does. I picked the softest one in the line, and it was just like sleeping on a cloud. Very nice! Mattress and box springs was 799, delivery 69, and mattress protector was 89, so with tax, it came to just over 1000, and will be delivered on Thursday. 100 day comfort guarantee (exchange policy), and 10 year warranty. I feel really good about my choice, and can't wait to sleep on a mattress that isn't sunken in in the middle! I called Humberto and told him that I decided on something else so he didn't count on me coming back... I had told him I'd be back if I didn't see something I liked elsewhere better. He was glad I let him know (I felt weird doing that, but he was nice, so I figured I owed him that), but I could hear the disappointment in his voice when he realized I wasn't going to buy from him. Thanks again for your advice here! Oh yeah, I told a friend about it, and he told me he bought the same bed from the same store about a year ago and loves it (but he got free delivery and a free mattress protector, I guess I'm not much of a haggler).

Or remove the brick. I am in SHOCK, maybe there were issues with the brick it was obviously not structural but a house around the corner removed all their brick and put in siding. The amount of STUPID and expense is over whelming to me. Why add maintenance, why DECREASE you home value...Leave your brick alone. Work with it. That FAD is one that just needs to GO AWAY!!!

We are supposed to have lows around 38 & patchy frost tonight & in the am. I brought in some of the small brugs. It is 46F at 11 pm. I am going to set the alarm clock & get up a couple times to check the temp. If it gets too cold, I am going to wake the boys & make them help me cover everything with sheets & blankets. That will be lots of fun in the dark. I'm hoping it won't get too cold & then they should be OK for another 10 days. I will be starting to dig the seedlings & ones that aren't going to bloom but I can't bear to chop up the ones with 100 flowers on them or buds that will open. We put a sliding glass door & one layer of plastic up on my front porch, it's going to be real crowded.

I'll have to keep posting pictures while all your Angels are sleeping...mine are going nuts here...this is my first summer (we skip spring in the tropics) with Brugmansias, so I can't believe how many have burst into bloom....anyone on the ABADS forum? I'm able to post pics on there direct...Mya

It's such a depressing time of year. My brugs are the least of my problems. I'm hoping that I have another week or two before a heavy frost. I can cut back the brugs that are in the yard and wait a while to dig them up. It's the mandevillas and other tender tropicals that I planted in the ground that I have to dig up ASAP. Why did I plant them in the garden this year? They grew so well but I don't know if it's worth having to dig them.

ugh..sorry Mike. You know we'll be waiting to see pics of your blooms tho! I am going to have to be doing that soon as well. We have been colder then normal the last week or so, and it surely does suck. I have been busy digging stuff up and potting em. Then moved some stuff to the front porch so its easier to bring in..I am DREADING this!

Karyn..dig em before its too late!!! Just do it! I have to get back out there today and dig up mandevillas and passies, oh and the vigna caracallas too. I am kickin myself too, for not having everything sunk inground in pots.
Next year I wont only do some that way, I will do them all!

I am not wanting to dig the ones in the ground either, they all have buds and I don't want them to drop. Karyn, I cut my mandevilla down to all the woody stems and no green leaves, is this what I should have done? I am going to spray it with forbid and hope that keeps the mites away for the winter.

Karyn do not wait to long! That would be SO sad. As to everyone else too.

Linda I can not believe your commitment lol. I would NOT get up in the middle of the night because of the weather. Getting close to to cold of weather, I bring them in. Not wanting to take a chance that they freeze to death.

Crossing my fingers for everyone that you will make it in time and enjoy them while you still can and as long as you can.

Shawn.. that bites...I am not looking forward to this at all.. Hopefully we still have a little time..I just ordered nursey pots yesterday so I have something to pot them in..I will start digging the ones without bud as soon as they arrive.. My Hubby isn't much help with this process.. He just shakes his head and walks off...LOL
He will help me get the big Banana's under the house..

I feel so sad for every one this time of year. I hope no one looses any brugs this winter,good luck.Good thing about Florida we don't get freezes very much. Wish I could help yall with yalls brugs. Denise

Well, Weatherbug said it got down to 36. I lucked out for once & nothing was touched. I took it all in early last year & then after all my bruggies were safely tucked away, the weather warmed back up for a couple weeks. If it had looked like it was really going to frost, I would have dug them all or at least cut the tops & left the rootball. I will keep watching the weather reports & hopefully get another 10 days or so & I want to take my time, not have to rush it. I want to re-label them so I have a mini blind tag (so I can look in the pot), a plastic tape tag (at eye level so I don't have bend to look for the pot tag), & write on the trunk (in case something happens to the other 2 tags). I hate getting a NOID! It makes me annoyed. I am going to take more cuttings from the ones that aren't blooming.

Sorry Shawn. I am dreading that time too. I got up in the middle of the night last night to check the fish in the pond. It rained a lot and had started overflowing the pond and when I heard it rain for about an hour I couldn't stand it any longer and went out at 3 am to make sure none of them got washed out and were lying on the ground. It was nice to get a really good rain for once and the fish were ok. Got some buds knocked off but everything else was fine. I am never going to get to see Naughty Nick bloom at this rate!

I am too sorry for you all having to bring them in already. I hope to still have about 4 weeks.( maybe longer). Linda I am glad the frost didn't get yours too.

I don't think I can do it this year. There's just too much. I might bury some heating cables into the bed that has the mandevillas and other tender stuff and hope for the best. Many of the brugs that I have in the yard might just have to bite the big one. I'll dig up Madeline, P&C and some of the DD's. Maybe I'll change my mind but right now it's too big of a job and I need to thin my collection anyway.

OK now I might delay bringing them in again because the weather is warming back up at night. I don't know what to do. I hate having these days here and there that I have to drag them in and out but I don't want to bring them in permanently until I have to. Looks like they will stay out a while longer... I'm not digging them this week I guess.

Karyn, Just take cuttings from all of them & leave them in a milk jug of water all winter. I am ready to mail the daffodil bulbs if you want them.

Shawn, Around here, it usually warms back up after the first frost/warning. That means if I can cover them & get them through a night or two, they can grow for at least another week. I have put the ones back out that I brought in. I keep an eye on the long range forecast so I can plan ahead & then, at the last minute, there I am digging frantically in the dark & yelling at my husband.

I don't feel like wintering over loads of cuttings again. I've had tubs of cuttings with air stones for years and don't want to deal with it again. I might try the tupperware container thing. You can do that with plumies for storage, though they won't necessarily root, they will remain viable for a very long time.

LOL Linda I'm glad only 3 of mine are in the ground right now. I was thinking next year of doing a lot more but now am thinking maybe not, unless I root myself a duplicate of them so I won't have to dig it up. Karyn whatever brugs you don't get the chance to dig up I bet you can get a replacement in the spring from some of us. But get your butt out there and dig the mandevillas and other tender things, LOL, remember the 3 GHs you have to fill up?

I could leave evey single plant that's inground out for the winter and I'd still be tight for space in the GH's. The big one 200' x 75' is only heated to the 40's. The other one at the farm isn't heated at all. It's about a quarter the size of the big GH. I have 2 in my yard a 10' x 12' and a 14' x 7' and the only one that's kept toasy warm is the 10' x 12' so you can imagine how crowded that one is. lol
