erythrina crista-galli (coral tree)

A customer brought a flowering branch in for us to identify. None of us had ever seen it before but we all agreed we wanted one. After a little bit of looking we identified it as a coral tree or cry baby tree (cause of the nasty thorns). Most of the information I can find says its hardy to either 8b or 9 but this was growing at a place in Sanford (7b). The leaf structure reminded me of a baptisia with HUGE red sweet pea flowers. It was very healthy looking which is amazing considering our record breaking summer. Anyone have experience with this very cool plant?
The customer gave me the cutting and a ripe pod with two huge seeds in it. Adele
