OT Has anybody seen this seedpod before?

I found this on a wild growing plant in the back yard. Since I like to save them all. I saved the seeds too. It was really cool looking. But when I first saw it I got scared lol

LOL it looks like a dead bird or a bug, I would have been scared of it too. I have no idea what it is though.

PG, Thanks for the update, sorry to hear it didn't make it. I often wonder if Sans don't show damage of any sort until a good while after you've taken them in. I've had a number of Sans and those of which declined, I wasn't convinced that there wasn't something wrong with them to begin with (our BBS here keep them moist/wet year-round for example). I think they initially look nice and healthy on the outside, roots even, but with such a fast decline as you've experienced (and myself), I can't help but wonder if like you said, it may have been damaged already and you (and I) didn't realize it. Not to compare a cactus to a Sans (they are both succulent type plants though), a couple years ago all my outdoor plants got sprayed when the apt people failed to notify us they hired someone to pressure wash the exterior of apartments/patios. I came home to everything dripping in what smelled like bleach. Long story short, some plants died immediately, my cacti... they took about 6 months before they all declined one by one. Thank you for the compliment!! I knew I was always liked old houses, but never really thought anything about it when we bought this one (didn't know it's true age at the time). Having an old house sort of feels like old coin collecting ~ and it starts an obsession. Anything we've done to the house, we've done ourselves. Lucky my husband has a knack for learning new things. Anyways, the huge Poplar came down right before we did the roof. 20 feet from the front of our house, 9 feet in circumference, 80 feet tall meant it should/had to come down. I felt sort of sick about it at first because it was healthy, but I'd like to find some life out of the whole scenario. I'm trying to sweet talk hubby into getting a few logs to a saw mill and let them cut a few thick slabs for a one-of-a-kind wood countertops. He says that's pushing it over the edge and afraid it would be ugly (like he thought the roof would be). =)

I got one, careful repotting, they bruise very easily. I've had to reroot about 4 or 5 stalks that fell over and rotted at the base after repotting.

It is a butterfly seed pod.I have them every where,when the wind blows they fly away where they land they will spring up.The monarch butterfly feeds on them and lays her eggs,the caterpillers then eat the plants.They then find a safe plance to cacoon.Me and my son hunt for the caterpillers ,count them and find where they cacoon.We then watch them change to butterflys.It takes about 2 weeks you can see them change inside there cacoon. We watch they come out its very cool my son loves to watch the change from caterpiller to butterfly.

So is it from a butterfly bush? The little furry seeds are cute looking when they fluff up.

Neat story Coleus, that sounds like good memories being made with your son. That would be so cool to watch cats turning into butterflies.

not a butterfly bush but a butterfly weed or milkweed. My girls used to get the pods and run around and watch the seeds fly everywhere, it would look like it was snowing!!!

I think I have a fishing lure that looks like that! Catches bluegills real good lol!

I just looked at the milkweed and it's a nice looking plant. Do you think you will plant the seeds? Now that you know what it is, did you happen to see some of those plants near the seed pod? Pretty good find there.

Yes Deb I have them all over the yard. I just never found one of those seed pods before. If anybody wants them,I SHARE even my milkweeds from Texas lol

I got some seeds from a tropical milkweed at the nursery that looked just like that. They stuck all to my hands, in my purse, in my car, lol. They went everywhere. The lure might be a roadrunner, lol. I have those too.
