Glad you can get back into brugs.
I think having humidity makes all the difference with having heat. So I better let some Florida folks or Coastal folks help you with finding the right brugs.

Beachplant, I have New Orleans Lady, I bought 9 double brugmansia plants last year and it is the only one that survived the heat and drought. It is in full wind, no protection and it is just lovely. I would recommend it to anyone at the coast. I think Chocolate Brug, is going to be your man, he knows what will grow at the coast. I hope he reads this so he can respond. Thanks for the info Barb. Lucy, you're right the humidity combined with the long hot summer is a killer for lots of stuff. The red brug took about 3 days to die. And other plants have fared even worse.
While we may have brugs blooming in January we can't grow so many of the ones ya'll can. So we just have to drool at your pictures. Same with bearded iris, my favorite flowers, they just will not do well here if they grow at all. Ah, zone envy, we all have it to some degree.

So glad to hear you finally got windows and can move back home.

I'm not much help on brugs or iris for you, though. Your weather is so different on the island. In my mom's neighborhood in west Houston bearded iris is practically naturalized.

Anyway, there was a recent post here about brugs in Lafayette and Opelousas, LA you might enjoy if you haven't seen it.

And perform very well for me are the Following.

Angel's moonlight will Bloom constantly
In the heat. I Have not seen a single day
on angel's moonlight with out Blooms.This
Is one Brug that do not wilt in the Heat.

Also new Orleans Lady will be a good one as
well.

Doosie is another one that will perform
In the heat and does not wilt.

Pink perfection is another double that
Blooms And Blooms very well all summer.

Pink Smitty performs well.

These are just a few that I Have had
a Chance to evaluate this Summer and
They have earn a permanent Spot in
My Garden.

HoneyBunny/Barbra, You Should see your
Red zinger Hibiscus You Sent Me This
Summer. It Now Stands Around 4 feet
And It Is a Vigorous grower as well.

Chocolate Brug

Humidity is better for the brug with the heat I think. We have dry heat and they just don't bloom well here in the summer. Rain is another factor. If we get any it helps and they will bloom but all the city water does is keep them alive but not happy. They all scream with joy when we have real rain, lol. The red ones aren't happy in the heat anywhere. They need more like the pacific north west climate. My Shredded White and Miss B Havin are the only ones that gives me blooms even in summer of the doubles or triples but that would probably not be the case if we got normal rain occasionally but they are both white. The first summer I had brugs only singles they bloomed all summer but it was an usually wet year.

That is what I meant Kristy. Brugs and tropicals are a lot happier WITH humidity.

Boy our brugs sure are having the happy dance today lol

Thanks for the info and link. That really helps. It's terrible to drool over a plant, finally spend all that money and then have it crater in a week. Zones only help somewhat. We need a heat/humidity zone!
