Joyce I have a couple Hydrofarm mats and all heat unevenly. The only mat I have that has even heating is my 5' x 3' and that's made from a different material. Instead of the thin black plastic it's a thick heavy duty rubber. I bought it from a farm supply store years ago. I even out the heat on the smaller mats by placing a 1" thick piece of wood over the hot spot and setting the pot on that. That doesn't help when using the heat mats for a flat but it works well with pots. I've never tried a thermostat to see if that makes a difference but don't think that it would.

I am about to order a couple heating mats...does anybody here recommend a particular brand and also...do you use a thermostat for temperature control?

I wish I could remember the brand that my big mat is but any label is long gone. If you can find one that's made of a heavy duty rubber, mine is about 1/8" thick, get that kind otherwise the Hydrofarm works well enough. I've never bothered with a thermostat.

I really want to invest in a few. Since you too send me so so many seeds and I can not wait to start growing them. But mine tend to get long and leggy. Bend over and DIE ....most not be a female seedling roflmao
