Looking for Moro blood orange seeds

Hello GardenWeb im looking for some "Moro Blood Orange" seeds if anybody can help me
out, willing to purchase if needed. this is tuff for me as I live in Australia. This may be usefull to someone in U.S. I have a vast array of seeds both from commercial growers.and my personal collection for trade.

Hello ingaz,

I'm sure a lot of people here would like to help you, but it is illegal for you to send citrus seeds into the United States. Not sure about sending to Australia, but I am sure that Australia would not allow this either. This is to prevent the spread of diseases that can destroy citrus crops. There could be fines involved if either country catches you. I don't think it's worth the risks.

Blood oranges are In season so check out any fruit store that specializes in large selection and eat the fruit. My friend and I started 10 Moro seeds.

When you get the seeds carefully remove the outer shell and place it in moist dirt in a small food container and close the lid. I placed mine inside the heating duct of my 90 plus forced air furnace The seeds ran about 85 to 100 deg F. and were up in 5- 8 days.

First time Gardner, I can answer that. It's technically probably a 'semi' dwarf. But in a container kept tree we can limit size by pruning roots and tops. There are grafted trees regarded more as 'dwarf' that are on Flying Dragon rootstock. But even those can grow to become a proper little tree. I have some on their own roots that I limit their overall size by pruning them pretty aggressively in the early spring. (I also prune the roots back to keep them in the same sized containers) By offering root space the tops tend to grow much better. Citrus grow so quickly in just a couple months they can add back 4ft of growth! Grafted trees tend to grow slower though but still need pruned to maintain a shorter bushy type shape. Hope that helps explain a bit more.

Thanks, Patty. It gets some afternoon shade, but it's in the late afternoon. It's against a SE wall, so it gets a smidgen of shade in the early afternoon. It isn't till the late afternoon that it gets a good amount of shade. Connie

blood oranges do poorly in low light levels. They will need added light in the fall winter and spring to keep there leaves. If you live in arizona or other place where it is only cloudy at night and you have a large south facing window you should do ok. Better yet a lean-to greenhouse with a built in 55 F triggered root heater you'll do fine. Choose you rootstock very carefully. Some one else will have to advise you on that. Have you thought about or already have a meiwa kumquat. You eat the whole thing. No pealling. No mess. Blood orange, know pealling, know mess. lotsa mess. I've heard that you'll often have an off-year with certain Citrus. If it doesn't bloom and fruit next year, then you might become concerned. After three years, this was the first year that my Moro bloomed. It began blooming in mid-February and continued through mid-May, at which point the fruit had all set.
