Comments (2)Hi Frank, I have this one, the leaves may be longer than you describe and are 4.25in wide. The flowers are orange. This plant belonged to a friend of my aunt who had it since (maybe) the 60's, and I guess it about 50yrs old - I've had it about 10yrs. I was going to repot it in the spring, so if its what you are looking for and can wait till the end of May let me know. I would prefer to trade for something rather than sell -- We frequent the same forums so I may have other things that interest you too. Mike...See MoreYellow Clivias
Comments (33)I have 'Sir John Thouron'. If I had only one houseplant that would be the one, we are well suited. I keep my clivias in a room with very little heat, about 55-60 degrees. I water them once a month. The smallest one has about 10 leaves and the flower stalk is about 4" so far. They bloom only once in March, no repeats. When they bloom the stalk is at least 16", maybe more depending how big the plant is. The flower head is completely round and full with lemon yellow flowers. They have the most wonderful, delicate scent in the PM. I cut the flower stalk as soon as bloom is finished. Sir John Thouron is only propagated by division. I have trouble getting the big one out of the tub it is packed in so tightly, when I do I break off smaller ones and pot them up. They go outside under a shade tree in the Summer, I keep them potbound. I really think that people fail with clivia because they fuss with them too much. I'm sure that they develop the flower bud the previous season at lease the yellow ones do. Keep them away from the heater, don't overwater and deep them potbound. You will be rewarded with glorious blooms. Sam in Maryland...See MoreYellow clivia turning peachy?
Comments (5)Thanks, bragu_DSM5. It could be a sport, but the strange thing, to me at least, is that all of the florets were yellow at first, but then some of the florets suddenly turned peach all at once while the others remained yellow. I just looked at it again (I'm out on the deck finishing dinner) and the situation is the same, with some florets yellow and some peach. If it was reverting to the wild type I would expect a strong orange, not peach, although I don't know what the parents of the original yellow clivia were. Maybe it was derived from a peach clivia? I always love to see it flower - now I'll be wondering what color it will flower the next time, and what color the pup will flower. Grasping at straws here, I just remembered that I saw a bee on the flowers on August 13 - I wonder if there could be some effect due to insect pollination. Claire...See Moresherri-anne
