old fashon names, stone plant markers

Well, I've got about 1/2 my swaps in the ground. (What is sad is that I still have about 20 jugs germinating). But as I walk around and see my lovely plants the view is marred by the glaring white of the mini blind markers. So here is my idea, I want to use palm size rocks and paint the plant names on them. Which kind of paint should I use and should I seal and with what. I also would love to have the "old" name of the plant like Dutchman's breeches instead of bleeding heart. Anyone have old names for foxglove, coneflower, columbine, hosta, solomon's seal, balsam, impatiens, datura innoxia and metel, hibiscus (although for this one I might go for "hot biscuit" because that's what my DD calls it), violet, cleome, 4:oo's, gaura, perilla, bee balm, valerian, calaminth, St John's wort, hollyhocks, etc. And is lemon balm the same as melissa? I wasn't having much luck googling. Or if they don't have different names perhaps old English spelling. Thanks. Shannon
