OT: Toad Lilies and MG's

This has been a terrible year for my Toad lilies as well. They have about half the number of blooms as usual and they are just now beginning to flower. These are all different varieties but it's hard to tell some of them apart in the pics. I have a few more varieties that haven't opened. What I really want are some good yellows but they are very $$. On the other hand my MG's are doing great. Lots of pretty variations.

I planted some from seed no luck,I just can't
seem to grow them :( Your mg look good to!

thanks guys! Barry, yes I admit, I have become obsessed with ponds! This makes 2 or 3 depending on how you look at it. I have 2 preforms, but they are joined together..so is that considered 1 or 2? I don't know, lol. But they just werent enuf for me. Workout? LMFAO!!! Thats a good one! I'm too lazy. I just love to dig :) But, thank you :) I'm leavin the butt kickin comment alone, lol! SJN, I WISH I had some frogs and toads! I havent been able to get my butt down to the creek to get some. DH said the spot he knew of was too grown over now. Argh. Hey, the less clothing the better. Normally I am just in a bathing suit top and shorts. Last year that's how I dug all my beds. Got a good tan! Outdoor showers are cool things..If you do it I hope you don't get stung by any bees or wasps..ouch! lol. Thank you very much EL, I am proud I did it all by myself, I can't wait till it's done. If it doesnt look good at the end..I'll tell everyone DH did it not me, LMAO!!!! Shawn, the fish love it! I can't wait to see it finished either! Been searching craigslist every day to try and get some free stone..no luck so far. I wanna know why stone is so dang expensive? Collielover, the digging took me aprox 9 hours..maybe 10. I took breaks to jump in the pool and have drinks. DH did the cooking & watched the kids for me, but of course they couldn't NOT bug me, lol. I told DH I coulda set up a carnival out front for them, and they'd still bug me every 5 mins,lol. I didnt do anything in the house I was so busy outside..of course noone else did either. Wed night I came in, and said "This place is a disaster, it's terrible" DH said "Yeah but the pond looks good" lol Theresa, I was gonna email you today..was a lil worried you hadnt been on in a couple days & you didnt answer my email I sent the other day. Glad your here! Hope all is well! Yes, I am going to keep the ponds seperate. DH wanted me to connect them and everyone wanted a long winding stream connecting them..what do they think I AM???? LMAO! I dont know if you can tell, but this one is in front of the other ones..really just in front of the larger preform the fish were in before. I really wanna put the lotus into that larger preform, I just cant lift the damn thing. I never shoulda sunk it into the ground. Wanted to put the whole tub into the pond, I dont want to transplant it right now, I am scared it wont bloom if I do. And I def dont want to kill it! I need to give you back a bunch of it! Eventually I will just fill in that pond with compost & manure I guess about 8" deep or so? And put the lotus in there. LOL, I'd have room for more if DH would get his crap outta the yard, lol..that's not selfish is it? AT least my stuff is pretty :) Thanks again everyone :) So glad I have you all to share this with.

Hey Kylie I was outside feeling up Miss B. Havins leaves, lol. They are so fuzzy and she is just growing up and up but I saw some new little branches at the top so maybe she is making little Y's. I also just realized how thick the trunks are on the shredded white. It has had the thickest greenest and biggest leaves of all the brugs and is fuzzy too. Each stalk looks like a small tree trunk and she is the only one that isn't getting buds dangit. You should have seen me in there crawling around looking to see if I missed one hiding in there, lol.

Susan have you ever tried winter sowing them? That usually works quite well. I'm pretty sure I'll get more seeds if you want some.

Your morning glories are awesome!! The blooms look so large! I don't know much about 'toad lilies' - but they look pretty cool! :)

Mike did I put any MG seeds in the envelope I sent? If so some or maybe all of those should be in it. If not I can send more. I also have a variety called China Doll that I'm waiting on seeds to ripen. It's my favorite this year, variegated foliage with two tone light pink ruffled blooms. I wish the some of the Japanese varieties weren't such sticklers about producing seeds.

Question? The third one from the bottom - Is that the chocolate morning glory? I can't remember the name of the one I'm thinking of! lol! Maybe you'll know it!

Mike it's a Chachamaru, similar to the Chocolate but the Chocolate just has the white around the edge. I'm hoping to be able to collect more seeds from that plant specifically but it's growing together with Blizzard and some Higes. I only have a couple that have been kept separate. I wish I could keep them all separated but I can't. I have a few more asclepias seed varieties including Calotropis gigantea (my favorite). I can send you some when everything's ripe.

Karyn those MGS are all so pretty! Are they all the Japanese kind or all different kinds? Love the white edges.

Beautiful MGs! I love the two last pictures best. The last one is a true red? It looks very red to me. The white with violet throat is lovely too.

Most are Japanese varieties but not all. I have hundreds of seeds if anybody wants some for postage. The thing is they are all mixed together so I don't know which ones will end up in an envelope or how many of a particular variety.

The little red one is kind of an orangy red. It's a prolific reseeder and not one of my favorites but the hummers absolutely love them so I keep a few growing.

Beautiful blooms Karyn! I especially love the MGs. I did get a few of the last one to grow this year that someone sent me. It is small, but I liked it anyway. I would love to take you up on your offer for mixed MGs for postage. Thanks.

Oh Mike then I have the Chocolate MG. But either it is steril...or no one wants to pollinate them. I have found ONE>..yes ONE seedpod so far.

Karyn you do know that you got me hooked on MG's too now right? ha ha ha
