Comments (2)A Moro Blood orange should do fine in a container. Always try to find container citrus on semi-dwarf or dwarf rootstock. Helps to keep them a little happier in a container. Patty S....See MoreMoro Blood Orange - finally got one....!
Comments (190)First time Gardner, I can answer that. It's technically probably a 'semi' dwarf. But in a container kept tree we can limit size by pruning roots and tops. There are grafted trees regarded more as 'dwarf' that are on Flying Dragon rootstock. But even those can grow to become a proper little tree. I have some on their own roots that I limit their overall size by pruning them pretty aggressively in the early spring. (I also prune the roots back to keep them in the same sized containers) By offering root space the tops tend to grow much better. Citrus grow so quickly in just a couple months they can add back 4ft of growth! Grafted trees tend to grow slower though but still need pruned to maintain a shorter bushy type shape. Hope that helps explain a bit more....See MoreHelp Sourcing Moro Blood Orange in Central FL?
Comments (13)Update: on my way out to a wedding Saturday, I was able to stop at Pokey's out in Zellwood to ask in person if they ever sell cuttings. A very, very nice employee told me that, while they don't sell them, he'd be happy to grab me a couple to take home at no charge if I told him what I was looking for. A couple minutes later, I was on my way with three cute little four-inch Moro cuttings to try and root. After a dip in the hormone, they're sitting out on the heating mat on my (very small) patio in one-gallon black nursery pots. If anyone's willing to send some good energy my way that they actually root, I'd really appreciate it!...See Morewoodrok
