Tropical Fruit Nurseries

I did a mango search, and there are places that will ship to CA, but they want $50 for the phyto certificate, then you have to add the plant and shipping. Are there any tropical fruit nurseries in CA?

There has to be, everything else we need is here.

if you're not too picky about what kind of mango, there are some local places to buy a mango tere. i've seen them sold at navlet's in fremont and also at the fruit stand by branham and snell in san jose.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, I have a number of Florida condo mango trees, but none of the state-side nurseries carry Gouveia or Rapoza, which from descriptions on the Internet seem like particularly outstanding mango varieties. I contacted the eBay store, Suncatchers of Hilo, who carries the Mamaki teas, and he referred me to Plant It Hawaii. Plant it Hawaii referred me to Royal Palm Enterprises. IÂm trying to contact them now. I would be happy with buying or swapping scion wood for Gouveia, which probably isnÂt still under patent, if they were still dormant and graftable. IÂve had good luck grafting apple trees, and a few stone fruit. However, your mangos probably are blooming now, like mine. The regulations for shipping leafless scion wood shouldnÂt be too different from shipping dormant plumeria sticks. But I could be wrong. I have jujubee cuttings leaving out but you can't have'em ;o) I also have a raisin tree that I'm hoping does well here (still a small baby in a 2 gallon), two forms of mulberry, loads of blueberries, just planted pawpaws, have blackberries going in, hardy kiwi still in a pot, have several figs I just put down this winter that I grew from cuttings last winter(looking alma if you have it .. my final fig variety or so I promised the wife ;o)I also have muscadines, mayhaw, apples and so many more I'd like. If its an edible and a permament part of the landscape so much the better. Oh this is all up in Picyune, Ms. I have a house in N.O. also where I spend way to much time (rather than being in the country!) Nice. Rather on the thin and tall side though. Is th rambutan grafted or airlayered? If airlayered, I hope they did a better job removing the wrapping than another HI nursery did!! One of the things I've noticed with airlayered rambutan is the tendency to push new growth from the top, sacrificing growth lower down. This is called "apical dominance". Growth from lateral buds is suppressed and those that do branch out usually end up being lost down the road. So you have a plant that grows up and up and up with no branches. Really sucks. I've seen a few in PR like this. So keep an eye on the growth pattern. Two ways to interrupt this: One is to remove the apical bud. The other is to either lay the plant on its side or to bend the plant over...which can cause a seriously wierd looking plant!

Also, on a whim, call Highland Garden Center in Pittsburg. They have weird stuff once in a while. We got our macadamia tree there, and they sometimes have coral trees as well.

I live in Monterey, Ca. Is there a nursery in San Jose area who carrys and sells Spondias purpurea tree (aka Red Mombin, Purple Mombin, or Hog Plum, ciruela in Spanish, siniguelas in Philippines)?
