Adding more fertilizer may not help because sometimes too much nitrogen will just encourage more green growth. Make sure that the soil that your cannas are growing in is rich and loamy. If the soil is very poor, your cannas don't get enough sun and/or water they wouldn't bloom. You might try working a little zeolite, lava sand, greensand and maybe some good old compost into the soil near the root zone. This will add a lot of micronutrients without zapping your plants with just a shot of nitrogen. It's the JP5(jet fuel) of the plant world. It works just fine as long as it's there, but when it's gone you crash. I've been scanning some of the other posts here and see that lots of folks rely heavily on miracle gro to force blooms. Call me silly but I've never used that stuff outdoors because it's expensive and doesn't last very long in garden soil. It also adds nothing to the general health of the soil and can actually be detrimental to the natural microbial life, fungi and earthworms in your soil. For healthy blooming plants, first you need healthy blooming soil. OK, I'm off my soapbox. Cheryl

I havent specifically grown those, but I have grown other small Dahlias from seed. Some started flowering in about 6 weeks, more often 8-10. As long as they are looking happy and healthy, you should start getting buds soon.

If you start counting from the moment I started collecting Hoyas, it took a couple months, because I had javanica, which is quick to flower. After about 6 months heuschkeliana started to bloom nearly constantly. After about 1 year I had seen a fair handful of flowers, mostly from cuttings received with peduncles intact. I would say it's around year 3 that there is alway something blooming. I have come to believe that carnosa received its bad reputation because it is the most common Hoya. That means lots of people grow it without knowing its needs, then blame performance issues on the plant. If you give carnosa strong light (enough to turn the leaves pea green) it will bloom within 6 months - 1 year. I took a couple carnosas, which had grown for nearly 10 years without blooming, moved them close to eastern windows, and after waiting a year they could not be better blooming. This puts them in the average wait range for most Hoyas. :) I know I'm always talking about Pepeuve, but I find his documentation of fresh peduncle-free cuttings that bloom after 6 months very inspiring. It goes to show what the plant is capable of, whether or not the rest of us can replicate the growing conditions of Malaga. :P

it might bloom now, but in all likelihood you'll have to wait until the first cool spell to get flowers that will actually set fruit. i have a HUGE watermelon plant spilling through my garden. it has tons of flowers, but only one has managed to set fruit: so -- it's not size, it's temperature this time of the year. i don't know exactly how cool it needs to get, but my guess is it's night-time temperature below 68 or so...
