Need help fixing my garden!

I just got a whole bunch of succulents, and potted them about 2 weeks ago. Some of them were very droopy, but I thought after they settled in, they would perk up. However, they did not. Do you guys have any methods of getting them to stand up? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Whole bunch succulents ? Must be a new species. A pic or two would be an ideal suggestion

Sorry its out of focus, but it shows how the plant is tipped over.

I do not know how new your unit is but if you have insurance I would headed that route and throw in a little extra money to upgrade. Unless you have no other alternative, I would send it through insurance..lightning can do some crazy stuff. Pinholes in coils and burns on bearings... who knows what high dollar items have been stressed that will work right now but will give up shortly.

I am wondering why so many of your plants died? Too much water, not enough water, planted when too hot and not shaded, were the plants in poor condition when planted, etc? I suggest you figure that out first before spending money on more plants. Do you like the look of fewer plants surrounded by mulch or a bed full of plants with little mulch showing? I think the hosta grouping adds flow to the bed. You might want to move them elsewhere but the layout is good. Eventually the one nearest the ninebark will need to be moved forward. IMO plants circling trees and shrubs are not as interesting. Choose plants that are different heights and some with different leaf textures. What are your favorite colors of blooms? Do you want plants that flower different times of the year, spring, summer, fall? Do you want mostly nonflowering perennials/ shrubs and some flowering annuals that add interest? Or mostly perennials/ shrubs, flowering or not? I suggest that before buying more plants you walk and drive around your area to see what grows well for others and which plants you like. Maybe this plant from someone's bed and that plant from another place. Visit nurseries to see what is offered? Then make a list of the plants you like and check their growth requirements and if they would work with your light and space limitations. Look at photos of gardens to get other ideas. I know one wants the space landscaped right now but taking the time to answer the above questions and to discover what you like will result in you being more satisfied with the resulting landscape. Or, hire a landscaper whose work you admire.

That's very good. Since you're drawing to scale, you don't need to put the dimensions on anything existing. At the base plan stage, try to keep the drawing as clean and clutter-free as possible ... so no tree canopies or any extra marks. If you show the tree trunks, that's enough of a reminder of where and what they are. Labels would get in the way, so those can be added once a copy of the plan evolves into a planting plan (or whatever kind of plan you make of it. It could have multiple purposes.) The first thing you'll want to use the plan for is to lay out a walk. The house steps terminate seemingly much farther out than they appeared in the picture. You'll want to create the walk according to reality ... no what things might have appeared to be like in a picture (as was the information that I went by.) It might look something like this. But you can alter any way you wish. After you decide on a walk layout, you'd want to figure out any beds. It's possible that the edge of the walk might form a bed line, but not necessarily. It's up to you. If you follow my concept, there are beds below at least two trees. (Another reason not to show tree canopies. Both beds and tree canopies showing around a tree would be confusing as to which is which.) Having the plan and the concept together will help you plot out the location of the larger plants, and then you can work down to the groups of smaller plants. If you're planning on some type of gravel walk, I'd make it 5' wide. I would also create a landing at the base of the steps, equal to their width, and made of some type of hard paving. If the entire walk is hard paving, such as concrete, you could make it as narrow as 4', but not narrower. A landing should still be equal to the step width and you would flare the walk where it meets the drive. (How the drive meets the parking seems a bit awkward and unrealistic, so I'd verify its layout on the base plan. The scale marked on the plan is what I drew it at. Interesting idea, covering the steps with pavers. That would bring the height of each step up if you put the pavers on the step surface. You could get one and measure the new surface height. 7 inches is standard. YouTube videos you can watch. Here's one.- Look for the part that might apply to your steps. Not rocket surgery.

Soil isn't what I would use and mod podging them in same pot isn't my fancy either.

Soil is working fine for my other plants. What should I do to make them stand up better though?

if you stick with those plants long enough you will see what he means about the soil. you will want better drainage. as for the tipped over plant. I cant tell what plant it is, but it looks like one of the succulents that grows long strings. they will all tip over eventually if that's the case.

What are the wrong elements of the soil? The tipped over plant was upright when I got it.

For succulents and cacti it is best to have them in a soil that dries out very quickly. Simplest mix that would work is a 50/50 cactus soil/perlite mix. If you can source the ingredients, the gritty mixes that are discussed in length on here are even better. If you do a little research on here on soil/mixes you'll find some great posts by tapla explaining soils and water retention.

Also, having all of those succulents together might not work long term. I'm not familiar with all of them and their requirements, but I have learned the tough thing with putting succulents together is you need to make sure they all have similar light/water requirements otherwise you end up sacrificing some plants in order to keep others alive .

If the one that fell down looks healthy, the plant could've just been too top heavy for the stem. If it looks unhealthy it could very well be a watering issue.

Putting several succulents with different growth rates will end up being an issue. The tipped over plant is some type of sedum, and it will grow pretty quickly into a long vine. The plant at the bottom/center of your photo will also do this, but on a much slower scale. At most, perhaps you could move the sedum to the edge of the pot so it can cascade over as it grows. It may not ever stand upright again, but if any of the leaves come off, you'll get little spouts that will be upright (until they grow too long, of course). The photo below is a pot of the stuff that was grown in one year, from two cuttings about 3-4 inches long.

Personally, I'd move the tall cactus more to the center, and the two clustery types (at 7:00 and 4:00 in your photo) toward the middle. They will spread out and fill in.
