King Humbert Red

Got these as rhizomes from our GW swap in the spring. Originally more interested in the foliage, but siamcannas has changed my view of cannas.

You are right about the foliage! Gorgeous. I hope Siam sees the Canna that I grew out from his seeds.

Hi rock oak deer, thats a great canna. i like it. it seems to be a hybrid from canna warzewiczii. but im not sure.
what i do know is that it isnt canna red king humbert. red kind humbert had large oragne red blooms and marroon green leaves.
This canna you are growing will attract hummmingbirds and the foliage is really nice :)
Lucy, you have more pics of the cannas you grew form my seeds?

You can send me that tropicanna, lol. Just kidding. I have to get with my neighbor. She usually has extras that she has to dig out to keep her bed in check. If she doesn't have any left I will let you know. Thanks for the offer. I cracked up when my sister got that crazy look on her face and just blurted out. THEY CAN'T HAVE THEM! She has always wanted plants but doesn't have much money so she always has other things she has to buy. If I realized how happy it would make her I would have took a lot more. I left her money for pots and potting soil and told her how to make compost out of her scraps and leaves and grass clippings. I know it gets expensive to buy all that and pesticide and fertilizer so I will help her along with things. Mom is enjoying the plants also so I'm glad I took them. I should have taken a bigger brug instead of the small rooted cuttings but I was running out of room in the truck. When they get bigger she is going to want more of them after she sees them bloom. Its so hard to picture a full grown brug from a stick with roots, lol. I'm gonna have to beg for a couple of pink canna too, lol. I bet those are something to see! I may just send you the money and let you go ahead and send her some cannas so she can get them going. I'll let you know tomorrow. Maybe if she gets a box full she will give my other sisters a few, lol. I took her a laptop too so when she gets it figured out she can join us on here and put Marian to shame with wanting some of everything, lol. I have to send her a wireless card as soon as I can pick one up so she can get online.

That is a beautiful canna, Lucy! The color looks like watermelon! I'm not completely sure on the caterpillar id, but it looks like a Giant Leopard Moth cat. Is it around 3 inches in length? Pam Here is a link that might be useful: What's this caterpillar website

I will keep an eye out for you also. The blue ones are light they could be shipped pretty cheap. If I find any light ones maybe I could ship them to you. I love pots and the crazier the better. LOL I have a wooden and ceramic shoe, animal, collection. I am starting to look for monkeys I have elephants and turtles those are easy to find, monkeys seem to be harder.

Thanks, siam. Went by the tag that was on it, but I was surprised at how different the flower looked from what I expected.

I do hope the hummers show up, we have had only a few this summer. This canna is spreading like crazy, so should have plenty of flowers.

These are a about 4' high now and seem to be topped out for this year. The info I found on warsewiczii is that they shouldn't get as high as they are now. But as siam said it must be a hybrid, so maybe the best of both. That would be great if they were to get 7-8 high.

Naturally I forgot the name Siam gave me for the Canna I have growing and growing and growing. It is now taller then the eaves of the roof.

Also the one that you Siam wanted to have seeds from...which I have found THREE until now.

I will have plenty of this one to share. Tubers that is. Cause this one is totally taking over my flowerbed. HOW in the world do you Canna growers keep them under CONTROL?

I would love to have some of your beautiful canna when you are ready to trade. Like everything else in my garden, the canna pictured is only a few months old. Maybe next year it will be taller.
