Some More on E-Bay Sellers' Scams

Have just learned why some sellers on E-Bay have low selling price BUT incredible shipping costs. Example: $8.00 for set of saucepans with S/H of $49.00. Turns out in case of complaint from buyer (usually because of shoddy/poor quality merchandise) the seller only has to refund the "purchase" price ... $8.00 and gets to keep the S/H of almost $49.00! Especially during Brug Cuttings Season, I'm going to be aware of how venders of items I'm considering arrange their "prices." Any comments or experiences? Gloria

In my opinion, before you bid on anything or hit that buy it now button you would want to look at the shipping charges. If they are outrageous like that, I always steer clear. When you bid on something, that means you are agreeing to all of the sellers terms in the listing. If they don't state what their shipping charges are anywhere in the listing, then e-mail them and wait for an answer before doing anything.

I think one other reason for the insane shipping charges is that ebay charges the seller a final value fee based on the selling price of the item only. So they are paying less of a fee to ebay by selling low and hiking up the shipping. It isn't right, but I think that's another big reason for it.

With all that being said, I am sorry you got taken!!!

I always check S&H before I bid on anything. A set of pans is heavy but certainly not $49.

I just received an order from Durham Botanicals last week. Great looking plants and he has several varieties. You'll have to tell him what you want and he can verify if he has it. He wants orders of 6 or more as a minimum. I got together with two people from work to order. You can email him at - chris@durhambotanicials.com. I am very happy with the quality of the plants. He has two different variegated adeniums too. I have attached a pic of several we purchased from Chris. He is also on facebook in the adenium groups. Hi all, Love brugs. I had a greenhouse years ago and grew about 5 or 6 of them. I purchased one last year about three feet tall but didn't bloom. Will this year as it grew to about 6ft. Then a nursery owner gave me one which she planted in the ground and was about 8ft tall. It was loaded with dbl blooms that start out white then change to orange. I don't know the name of this one either. I'd love to have more of them but don't have the room in the house as the two I have are in 20 inch pots so what I was wondering is if they could be kept in a cool basement in complete darkness or would they not survive in complete darkness? Morning, Eahamel, mind if I ask where you're located? These days I suffer memory loss. lol. You probably mentioned location a million times. Are your citrus in containers or in-ground? Heck, wish my potted citrus grew like you describe yours. :) I think most plants need breathing room, although many authors say grouped plants retain humidity. But, plants kept too close lack air circulation. Something, plants, 'especially indoors,' require. How large do Rio fruit get? Ex..size of Navel orange or Grapefruit. My citrus are grown for decoration, and love of growing.. However, I have eaten lemon, calamondin and kumquats. As for 25' trees, I'm sure fruit isn't wasted. Birds get to nibble, too. :) So true..grafted trees fruit much faster than bushes. I think the only ungrafted citrus in my collection is a Calamondin.. Eahamel, citrus are not hardy in IL. One year 'out of desperation,' lol, I bought Poncirus/FD, then planted in- ground. It survived our freezing winters, think 3-yrs, but so slow-growing. One year, during winter, some Bozo walked across the garden, 'FD was dormant,' instead of the walkway. In the process my FD broke at the base. I was SO upset. It never grew back. HA! weather people. Plan opposite predictions. lol. According to forecasters, we're supposed to get rain all of next week. We'll see..we sure need rain, too. I should have checked to see if you started a new thread before posting here. We'll all do the rain dance..:) Toni PS. I have sown store-bought citrus seeds.. lemon. It grew so, very fast, but thorns were longer and more prickly than cactus. One pro...foliage had super-strong lemony scent. More pronounced than nursery bought, established fruit.

Don't reply to this. You can forward it to spoof@ebay.com. I got one of these and replied that I did not know what they were referring to. Shortly thereafter, ebay contacted me to let me know my account had somehow been breached, and I had to go through a rigamarole of changing passwords and some other process which I cannot remember. Anyway, it was an inconvenience and a concern.

I have sold seeds on ebay... The charges seem to add up... The other day I was charged $.50 just to let someone pay with PP..It was a free plant and they paid the postage..(PP is an ebay co.)It cost me $7 then they get their cut.. sooo it cost me $.50 to send someone a free plant..HMMMM!.... I have bought&sold alot of stuff on ebay but I think I am done.. It is a great place with alot of exposure but I am not looking to make a living..LOL.. I have found that most of the time you get a better deal on plants from a friend or dealer than on ebay.. there rules are very gray !! People and Indepentent businesses seem to have more accountability.. IMHO.. I'm thinkin $49. MBA!!!!

This seems an exaggerated example (but a true one according to e-bay) I was looking at the Brug cuttings auction. The same vender for the same amount and size of cuttings was charging (to my zip) for one auction $6.95, for another auction (everything the same) $12.95. The bids for the cuttings were only 5.00 and 6.+. That's what started my looking into the situation. I always figure the S/H into the complete price and then decide if I want to spend that much for a particular cutting. But when I see such a wide spread between price and shipping I have to stop and think about it and the vender! Gloria
