I don't want to hurt your feelings, someone said I was rude because I gave an opinion on how to care for the plant. This is an African plant and really needs a resting time in our summers. It is winter in Africa now, with a lot of rain, and cold weather so it is resting now in Africa, no one told the plant that it is growing north of the Equator.
Here it is in flower and will begin to grow again after it flowers, he tips are brown which tells me it is getting too much water, and the leaves are turning yellow and has red/brown tips, which may mean it is getting ready to die, it may need fertilizer, and the shade seems to be doing it some good as the new leaves are coming up green, its lower leaves are drying up, and the plant needs some dormant time, and soil changed if it hasn't been changed in the past year. Well, it's been on the yellow side of things, with a few dark tips, for most of a year, so I don't think anything catastrophic is happening right now. New leaves have been growing at the top at about the same rate that they drop off the bottom, but it's more unbalanced than specimens I've seen near where I live. Roots seem to have filled up the whole pot in just 4 months.

Well, it's been the better part of a year, and my plant is still growing. Unfortunately, only about 5 rows of leaves at the top of each stem are active at a time - it's grown consistently taller, but never seems to keep its leaves for very long.

I've been giving it a little more water than usual over the past couple months, and it seems to be helping, but the tips are still turning red, and those leaves eventually dry up. It's also leaning towards the sun, but in the past it seems that direct sunlight has been a problem. So, my questions are:

1. What could be causing it to grow like this? Sun, water, soil, etc?

2. Is there a safe way to trim it back closer to the pot so it will grow out like it used to be?

This looks like a sedum to me.

I've got a similar plant I call Senicio vitalis... could it really be S. cylindricus?

Well, the tag that came in the pot when I got it said, "senecio mandraliscae," but that species has much thicker leaves spaced further apart. Whatever it is, I'm just hoping someone has experience with rehabilitating this kind of plant. I'm hopeful that it can grow well again, since it does continue to sprout new leaves.
